The cone of death
I have been living in South Florida for the last 28 years, there are things I love about living here...the beach, wearing shorts in the winter, being able to be outdoors all year long but to have all of that you have to also have some downfalls for living here.
The snow birds that come and can't drive, the heat in the summer and of course the hurricanes!
I have been through some major hurricanes since I've been here. I was here for hurricane Andrew, I saw first hand what it can do to a city.
I then experienced hurricane Katrina and then right after hurricane Wilma, which ripped the roof off our home as we sat in the bathroom with my girls and a mattress over our heads for hours. The sound alone sounded like a train coming through our home.
This is the cost of living in paradise and we, Floridians are use to it.
As I am putting on my shutters and preparing my home for the impending danger, I know some of you asked why don't you just go? The whole state of Florida cannot go, for many reasons, financial, family, whatever your reason, we are here, sticking it out.
I am glad my girls decided to go with their dad, out of the state, I can breathe easier knowing that they are safe. I know that they were stressing beyond belief and I am glad they will feel better being so far away.
For me, well I am a warrior, like I wrote yesterday I am one tough bitch and I feel like I am Daniel going into the lions den...
I will be doing this by myself and I am okay with it. I no longer worry...I just pray and then let God worry.
If it's my time, I am ready, I am not scared but until that time comes I am standing tall in the fight.
I am not in a surge flood zone, I am not in a trailer, I am not on or by the water, I have my safe room in my closet in the middle of the house with all my supplys.
I've looked around the house and figured out what is the most important things to me and I bagged them up, put them in containers and put them with me.
Funny how we think material things are so important until faced with this, it's then we realize that family and friends are the most important.
I took my mom's bible, some small heirlooms from my grandma and great grandma, my photos of my girls...these small things are priceless to me. Everything else can be replaced, hell I moved in here with just a mattress... if I can do it before, I can do it again!
I've done all that I can do and now I leave it into God's hands and pray.
So today my friends, if you are in Florida, please be prepared and be safe. As for my loved ones around the country waiting and worrying about me, I will be fine.
I've been to hell twice, I've jumped out of a plane and I've walked on fire, this will just be another notch on my warriors belt.
I am a fighter, I am standing here fighting...
Fuck you Irma!! Give it your best shot, I'm ready!
