My soul sisters 

So if you know me or follow me you know that I am an only child. Growing up I always wanted a sister but unfortunately my mother who also wanted a big family was unable to have any more children after me, so that was that. 

I decided that I would choose who would be my family through my friends. And I have life long friendships, my longest has been since I was five. These are not "Facebook" friends, these are real once a week phone call friends, these are through thick and thin friends, these are the friends I go and visit on vacation friends, these are my ride or die friends.

And through these friends have come other friendships. This week I am going home and my friend from Minnesota is driving 17 hours to meet us in New York. Then 5 days after I get there two of my friends from here are meeting us and we're all staying with 2 of my best friends there that I've known since middle school. See they all became friends through me and I love that because we are all like family.

Sometimes you can't pick your family, even if you wish you could.

I remember in the beginning of 45s run, as tempers were high and everyone took sides. I lost my true family, my blood family over politics and racism as I am not one to keep my mouth shut.

But at the end of the day, I hold no grudges as everyone is entitled to their own opinions even if you think they are assholes, we still live in a free country and get to say what we want to.

That made me realize who my true family was, it was those who I chose. It was those who were there for me mentally, for a shoulder to cry on, to help me with groceries and my light bill. These are my soul sisters, this crazy bunch of Cuban, Puerto Rican, Native American, Straight up White, Black or a mix, my united nations of colors and religions that are the family I chose for myself.

These were the women that flew out when my mother passed. That took over all the arrangements when I couldn't, that helped me in the shower when I couldn't walk, that took care of my children when I was too sick to get out of bed and my ex husband had to go to the gym and told me to figure it out. Yes, what I figured was that my friends were there for me and not him. See he's gone but they are still here.

When I was miserable and going through my horrific divorce, they came, they listened, they packed and moved me. 

These women are my life line and I couldn't love them more if they were blood sisters. These are the women we all need in our lives.

Of course you must be as giving as kind back to your soul sisters.

Be there at 4 am to go to the hospital, move them 20 times in 3 years, (Yes, you know who you are!) Pick them up when their car breaks down, give them money when you know things are tight. This is what we do for each other, this is the bond we share with one another. Being there for one another on good times or bad, this is what makes us soul sisters.

So today my friends, I ask you, do you have a soul sister? Are you lucky enough or blessed enough like I am, to have a tribe of women there for you? If the answer is no, I want to invite you to join ours. Soul Sisters Soulution is your tribe, to come, to share, to be honest, to be supported by a group of women who care. Who will be there, who knows what you're going through and will be here for you without judgment.
