There before the grace of God goes I 

This is one of my favorite bible verses. I know this is true as I have hit rock bottom not once but two times in my life. But yesterday I helped my daughter as she put together a food drive for the community of Overtown. 

I couldn't help but to give thanks again as this could have been me.

 

I watched as so many addicts came by to get some clean clothes or a hot meal or even the Narcan they were giving away there. They were so grateful for us being there telling us thank you over and over but I wanted to thank them. This was a gift, not just for them but for us as well. We were all just hoping that maybe we could touch someone enough to change their lives.

And don't say it can't happen. I've been clean for 35 years, I changed my whole life around. And I was standing there serving with a man who was in prison for 21 years, who came out and totally changed his life and now gives back to the community. See there is always hope. Sometimes all a person needs is some encouragement, a kind word or just being treated like a human being.

Standing there I almost felt an out-of-body experience as I looked at my girls, their boyfriends, and their friends who were here helping others. I was never so proud to be a mom, knowing I taught my girls compassion towards others, how to do the right thing, and not just with just lip service but to actually do something to make a difference.

See we can all make a difference, it just takes one person at a time.

So today my friends, if you want to feel like you're making a difference in this screwed-up world, I beg you to volunteer, go out into your communities and help another human being. It is then you will realize how truly blessed you are and how not so different we all are. Because like I said before… there before the grace of God goes I.

And like I say at the end of every blog…. Only you can be the change you want to see.
