Is Violence The Only Way To Be Heard? 

So unless you live under a rock, you have heard about this man, Luigi Mangione. He is the 26-year-old man indicted on murder charges in the deadly shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City. 

Recently while he was in court, the people outside held signs saying “Free Luigi” and protested the profit-focused healthcare insurance industry. It's reported that he’s received a lot of emails from people offering to help pay for his legal bills and setting up a GoFundMe page for him as well. Even Saturday Night Live got into it when Chris Rock said “Hey even drug dealers get shot” which was followed by loud applause. 

Now no one is saying it's okay to unalive another person for any reason. But many people can understand his frustration against health insurance in this country. Many people can't even afford health insurance and if they can it's easier if they tell you what's covered since it's such a small list that it's ridiculous.

People who are dying are denied the care that they need. People all over are suffering because these companies are only worried about their bottom line and not basic human care. 

Meanwhile, the insurance companies are making billions of dollars off of sick Americans which they care nothing about.

The same thing goes for the pharmaceutical companies and the doctors in this country. They don't try to give you a better choice. No, they just offer you a pill to fix it. Why? Because it's more profitable to keep people sick. It's a shame that it had to come down to killing this CEO for people to start talking about the healthcare industry. But people are mad, they are frustrated and sometimes violence is the only way for repressed people to be heard. I am not saying it's right or wrong, I'm saying sometimes a person gets to their breaking point and then they can only see the injustice and want to fight back.

So today my friends, we need to make a change so that people don't feel that this is the only way to be heard. We need to care about our own who are sick, who can't work, who have families that are suffering with them to at least decent health care. To a system that is not just about making money but helping people so that violence isn't the only way to be heard. We need to be the change we want to see.
