Learn to chill

Hump day Treadmill Treats
Learn to chill
This last week I was away on a cruise so I reran some of my favorite blogs
(well, I did while I had service)
I always write about how I work hard but I have learned life is too short, so I play just as hard.
We need to realize that we need a balance between the both.
Well last week not only did I get to practice what I preach but I got to teach it to someone else as well.
My friend blessed me with a cruise, he's just like me, works 12- 15 hours a day,
6 - 7 days a week, truly a hard worker but his problem is he doesn't know how to relax, so I felt it was my job to teach him.
The great thing about a cruise is your disconnected from the world, no cell phone, no Internet, no Tv's, it's all about being present with who you are with. Imagine that concept?
Second your at sea alot, there is only so many things to do on a boat so you get to chill, watch the majesty of the seas (literally) and be engaged with the person your with.
For him and for so many others it's a hard thing to be able to do, shut off the world, do nothing when it feels like you should be doing something.
But practice makes perfect and the more we chilled, the more he got it. Sometimes you need to recharge your soul, be one with nature, forget your worries.
We have this preconceived notion that we all have to be super human, we have to work ourselves to death otherwise we are not worthy. That doing nothing is such a big sin in our eyes.
Europeans have it right, they take siestas during the day, they have long maternity leaves, longer vacations, a shorter work week. They get it, they get life is too short and so they learned to embrace the down time.
I have to tell you by the end of the cruise my friend was a pro, yes, I am a good teacher!
We slept late, we danced till the wee hours of the morning, we ate, we drank, we took naps, we laughed til our sides hurt and we chilled... we talked about anything and everything while watching the sea go by.
(okay, we did workout but to us that is like brushing your teeth, it's not work it's just something that you do)
It was magical just being able to do nothing, no worries, no cares, no alarm clocks just chilling with a person you care about...
So today my friends, remember life is short, embrace the chill moments, even if you can't go away, chill at the beach, take a walk through a park, have a picnic by a lake, shut off your phones, shut off your minds, be present in the moment, enjoy the company your with....just learn to chill.
