Reliving the good olde days
Yesterday I posted an old picture of me with a bunch of old friends from high school. It was taken at a picnic we had for Boces, which was our schools trade school, we went half day to high school, half day to this trade school.
Every day for 2 years we rode a bus for 40 minutes there and 40 minutes back to school. Over an hour every day on a bus where you get to talk, laugh and basically goof off with a bunch of your friends, it made us closer than most.
So last night while I was on Facebook and a bunch of the people in the photo starter talking about the picture and of course all these other memories came up. Times some of us remembered, others couldn't for the life of us, remember. Well that might have been another story all together as we were all stoners back then.
I remember all the good times, the friendships, we thought would last a lifetime, times we thought would never end. We were reckless, we thought we were invincible, we thought we could do or be anything.
Who knew? We had no clue, who knew 2 years after graduation I would have buried two of my best friends, who knew that I'd be in a full blown drug and alcohol addiction and battling demons from my past.
Who knew some of them would move away never to be heard from again, some would get married, some would go on to great things, some would never leave the sleepy little town we grew up in.
No, we were young, we had no idea about the real world, but ask us back then, we thought we knew everything, we had everything figured out, ha,
I laugh now thinking how cocky we were back then.
I laugh now thinking how cocky we were back then.
Life was a blank canvas waiting for us to paint whatever we wanted on it. We had no idea how hard growing up would be.
We had no idea of bills, kids, mortgages, spouses, jobs, lack of money, dreams that were shattered, life's hard kick in the ass.

No, back then it was about the parties, hanging with your friends, your boo, it was late nights, no commitments, no responsibilities, life was good.
I miss those days, they were some of the best days of my life, these were some of the most important people in my life, they loved you for you, they had your back, they were there for you. Now you question people, you are less trusting, you think more and care less.
We all have busy lives, we got "things" we move on and lose touch. I am grateful for the handful of true friends I still have, the ones that keep in touch, that take the time to see how you are and get together with whenever possible.
Recently we lost a lot of class members, this makes you think about your life, how much time you have left, what's your purpose, did you do all you set out to do? Are you content? At peace? Happy?
Yes, it brings us closer to ourselves, it makes everything else seem less important. It makes us yearn for the days of yesterday, when things were so simple.

So today my friends, I want to thank my friends who made me laugh back then and made me laugh last night again, just like it was 30 years ago...I am so glad it was you I got to ride that bus with every day...I am glad your in so many of my wonderful memories and I am glad we still keep in touch.
Today reach out to someone in your past, relive some great memories, catch up and laugh because laughter is the best medicine.
Don't wait, do it today relive the good olde days.
