Stressing the holidays
Stressing the holidays
Today I want to talk about stressing the holidays. I know many people are really starting to stress the upcoming days, maybe you have too much to do and not enough time.
Some of you are stressing about seeing relatives you can't stand, the ones who are judgmental, negative or just plain mean.
Maybe you're spending the holidays with a person you no longer love or want to be with, your dreading putting on that "happy" face for the world.
This year especially many people will be alone due to the pandemic, and it is a sad time for everyone.
Yes, all of this can make you want to scream. You're losing sleep over it, your hair is falling out, you can't eat or you're eating too much and you feel nauseous every time you think about it. Yes, this is real for so many people and I know first hand what this feels like, stress sucks! It's amazing what power your mind has over your body, how something that small controls it all.
Think about it, you think of something like the holidays and all of a sudden your body is having physical reactions to just a thought, now that is powerful.
You can literally make yourself sick just by your thoughts, so if your mind is that powerful, imagine the good it can also do, you can use it to heal yourself.
Think about it, Louise Hayes wrote a book about it years ago, as did many others. Why can't we use our minds to overcome things? To let go, to heal ourselves? Think about how powerful our minds are. One thing that comes to mind when I think about this is athletes, who day after day push themselves beyond their limits.
One story I always remember is about two runners that were doing a marathon, after many hours of running they were almost to the finish line. When one of them fell down out of exhaustion, causing the women behind her, to fall over her.
They both couldn't get up, try as they might, their legs felt and looked like Jell-O.
They kept getting up and falling back down. But they weren't giving up, in their minds they were going to finish this race and nothing was going to stop them.
They ended up crawling to the finish line, where the first one helped pull the other over the finish line. That is determination. That is your mind saying to your body you will not quit, you are going to do it, you are going to finish. That is how strong the mind is, that it overtakes the body to make it go on.
So if this is the case, why can't we just say to ourselves, we're going to have a great time this holiday season, we're not going to let stress make us sick, or ruin our day, we're going to overcome this. I learned no matter how much you stress about something it doesn't change a thing. Think about it, if you stress all week about something but does it change the outcome? Hell no, it makes you sick, you will lose sleep, it physically affects your mind and body yet the outcome is still the same, so why do we do it? Really? Why?
I let go of stress years ago when I ended up in the hospital, which then cost me thousands of dollars, which stressed me out even more! After that I realized that it won't change anything so I quit doing it. I no longer stress anything or anyone. Whatever is going to be is going to be. I can't change it, I can only change my reaction to it. I am in control of my mind, my feelings, my reactions and... here is that word again "choose" I choose to not worry or stress.
Even though this pandemic where I went from 100 to zero clients, where I had no money coming in. When my daughters were depressed and almost suicidal, I didn't stress, I prayed and let it go. I can't make the pandemic go away
I can only choose how I am going to allow it to affect me.
So today my friends, remember you can choose your thoughts, you can choose not to stress and you can choose to ignore your miserable mother in law's comments, it's your choice. Make it a healthy one, don't let other people affect your health, don't let things stress you out, if they don't get done, the world will not end trust me.
Relax and let go...Pray and let God worry....sing the Frozen theme song...let it go...let it go...let it go...stop stressing the holidays and have fun.
