Go get your pain

So yesterday I wrote about people who thrive in drama. People who are stuck in drama and pain. Today, I am talking about a different kind of pain, going to get your pain. My girlfriend says this all the time, and it's true. No matter what you say, it doesn't matter if you've been through the same thing. Some people just need to go get their own pain. They need to make the mistakes, sometimes over and over again, before they get it. And many people never get it. 

I know many women who are my age who are still dating the same creeps they have dated all their lives. Abusive men who are good for nothing, and then they will say it's them. No honey, it's you. You clearly like the pain. You keep picking the same type of men expecting different results. That is called insanity. 

Look, I get it, I am hard-headed. I have to make the same mistake 4 or 5 times before I get it. One day, I realized all of the men I was dating were narcissist, controlling, or passive-aggressive. I blamed them, but I had to come to the realization that the denominating factor was me. I was picking these men, I was allowing this to happen to me. I had to get my pain over and over again before I learned my lesson and moved on.

It's like with your children, you tell them things because you've been there. You don't want them to feel the pain you did. You know better, but they are not listening. They think they know better, what do you know? This is different. He is different (oh lord, if I had a dollar for every time I've said this or heard this, I'd be retired by now). So what can you do? Nothing but step back and let them get their pain.

So today my friends, we all have to learn our own lessons. Some people are smarter than others and catch on quicker and some, well... they need to see for themselves. They need to show you they know what they are doing and that you don't know anything about it. Yes, they need to go get their pain.
