A mass murder in my backyard

It breaks my heart to yet again have to write another story about another mass murder in our country, this time it's even closer to home, as it was right in my own backyard.

At least 17 people were killed when a teen opened fire at a high school in Parkland, Florida.

Fourteen others were wounded, five of whom are suffering life-threatening injuries.

Authorities identified the shooter as 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, who concealed himself in the crowd while fleeing Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. He was arrested in nearby Coral Springs.

They say he was expelled from the school and went back for some type of revenge. Whatever the reason so many of these families lives have been changed forever because of this one boys action, as has many other families across this nation who has also been affected by violent gun murders.

It touches my life, as so many of my friends children go to this school, while we wait to see if any of them were part of this rampage. Everyone will be effected by this, as its a small community and everyone knows everyone, so it will touch us all in one way or another.

I can't seem to wrap my head around this, our children should be safe in school, they spend most of their time there, away from us, we expect the schools to take care of them.

But yet again we're worried about building a billion-dollar wall to keep out the Mexicans, when was the last time a Mexican did a mass murder in our country? When will this country stop saying our prayers are with you, in one mass murder after another and start saying we need change?

When will we stop selling guns that kill a hundred people in 2 seconds and have tougher gun laws? When will we get our heads out of our asses and realize that most of the mass murder in this country comes from our own, it doesn't come from Muslims, it doesn't come from Mexicans, it doesn't come from immigrants from other counties, it comes from our own hometown.

When will we change those laws to make it tougher, to get guns, more intense background checks and get tougher on black market guns sales?
We're so fast to point the fingers at others when we don't see that this comes from us, this makes me so mad.

Why don't we use that money to make our school safer? To install police and metal detectors? Why are we still paying congressman who line their pockets with gun lobbyist money more raises when our children are dying every day?

There have been 300 school shootings since 2013, 300 shootings!!! What is wrong with this picture? What is wrong with this country?

I don't want to hear our prayers are with you, I want to hear we are going to change our laws, we are going to spend money on the things that keep our children safe, not to keep out people who come here to do the jobs we would never do! Get real people, this is what terrorist looks like, a white kid, an extremist, a person that lives in your backyard.

A recent survey said that there were 201 terrorist incidents on U.S. soil from January 2008 to the end of 2016. The database shows 115 cases by right-wing extremists ― from white supremacists to militias to “sovereign citizens” ― compared to 63 cases by Islamist extremists.

So who are we trying to keep out? They live here, get real about this, stand up, let your voices be heard, we will not tolerate this again.
Don't say your prayers are with us when your hands are in the pockets of the government and the gun lobbyist, demand a change.

Today my heart is heavy yet again, I am afraid for our children and what is happening to this country and I will continue to be a voice for those who no longer have one.

Not only will I be praying for the families, I will be praying for our country and I will keep speaking out for change.
Because words without change mean nothing..."Be the change you want to see"
