Having faith through the storms

Having faith through the storms

So yesterday I was listening to the Rickey Smiley morning show. He was talking about all that he's been through in his life and how he could still praise God. He went on to say even through the storms he gave thanks. Now, if you don't know, he recently lost his son, I can't imagine, as that has to be the worst thing a parent could ever go through. Yet here he was, still praising and still giving thanks to God, even through such pain and heartbreak.

I also feel that way, as I've been through so much pain in my life. I still give thanks, and I'm so grateful every single day that God wakes me up. Yes, life is tough, and sometimes life just sucks but it's all about how you look at things. You could be mad and not be forgiving to the people that have hurt you or about the things that have happened in your life.
Or you could look at the positive even through your storms.

I always try to look for the lessons in my life even through the bad times. I ask what this is trying to teach me? What is the lesson here that I am supposed to learn? I know firsthand growing up with a negative grandmother. She hated the world and was mad at everything that happened to her, and how that affected her life, my mother's life, and my life because we had to hear about this every single day.

I get it. People hurt you, and yes, things happen. You can think why me? Or blame the world, but it's all about how you look at things. I choose not to be hateful, I choose to be grateful. I choose to be positive, and I choose to give thanks even through the storms. It's all about choices that you make, and this is up to you. You get to choose. How do you want to look at things, and how do you want to be able to move on?

I always say that forgiveness is not for you. It's for the other person. It's about letting go of the hatred and the anger inside yourself. If more people could look at life like this, the world would be a better place. Forgiveness is not that hard. I forgave my rapist. I forgave my verbally abusive husband. I forgave people who had hurt me throughout my life.

Now, don't get this twisted, I will forgive them, but I will love them from afar. I will not allow them to hurt me anymore, but I will no longer hold on to anger or resentment towards them. That is on them, I believe in karma, that everything you've done, eventually comes back to you.

So today my friends, remember the choice is yours. Just like Dorothy finds out in The Wizard of Oz, you've had the power all along. You just need to know it and use it.
You, too, can give thanks even though your storks.
