Emotional Healing And Restoration 

We are all broken in one way or another. One of the best quotes I ever heard was when I first came to my church. My bishop said the church is like a hospital, sick people come here because if everyone was healed they would think they didn't need God. 

I know I was sick, just coming out of an abusive marriage for 24 years. I had hatred for my ex-husband, I thought I was wronged. How could I get nothing after all I put up with? Didn't I have enough tragedy in my life? Didn't I suffer enough? 

I remember saying out loud during a Sunday sermon when my Bishop said you have to pray for people, even your exes. I turned and said to my church husband, 

“I pray he gets hit by a bus”

Look don't judge, I had just started coming to church, I was sick. I needed help, that's why I was there. 

My church husband said “You can't say that” 

I said “Why Bishop said we should be honest, we'll I am” 

During that sermon, Bishop said “He heals the brokenhearted and binds their wounds”

At that time I didn't think that was true because I was so hurt and broken. There are so many hurt people who are hurting people because they have not dealt with the hurt inside them. We get church hurt, not just by the church but by broken people who are in church. We get hurt by people and instead of fixing us we take that hurt and bring it with us, to the next relationship, or the next church. 

My forgiveness didn't come overnight. I can tell you that but I kept going to church. I kept reading his word, I kept believing what my Bishop was saying and what I was reading. And one day I was healed enough to forgive him and to own what I did and forgive myself. I learned to pray for him, yes, I was shocked too. I prayed he became a better father and to not cut his girls with his words. I prayed he would own what he did and change for the next relationship in his life. I never prayed for an apology, as I didn't need one to move on. So many people are waiting on apologies, that they are stuck in hurt.

So today my friends remember we are all broken, we can't expect anyone to complete us or fix us. We must do this all on our own. We must find our own emotional healing and restoration.
