The Haters On Social Media

It's really incredible lately that everybody has something to say on social media. Now don't get me wrong, it's great that we live in a country where everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But so many people just have mean opinions about what other people write or say. 

Now I'm all for the 1st amendment, we all should have Freedom of speech. But I can tell you that it doesn't say anything in there about being mean or cruel to other people's opinions, it just says we have a right to OUR opinion.

When did we become a country where instead of respecting other people's opinions, it's okay to call people names or put people down because their ideas are different from our own? I can't tell you how many times I've come across somebody's post and in my mind I may not agree with it. But I don't come out and decide to put them down because my opinion is different from theirs.

I am not going to make someone feel bad for expressing their opinions, so I just keep scrolling. I think the world is an amazing place with so many beautiful cultures, colors, and religions. We all have different opinions and different ideas and that's what makes life so beautiful.

Unfortunately, this society today seems to be raised on entitlement. Everybody thinks they're entitled to their opinion even if it hurts someone else's feelings. 

People want to beat you up with their opinion and if you don't agree, then they start calling you names. I don't understand why can't we all have our own opinions. Why can't you just mind your own business?

Now I'm not talking about debating somebody on their opinion because that's fine but when you start to become cruel to that person because you don't agree with their opinion that's when the line is crossed.

We see this every day on social media. Everything you say or write is scrutinized and everybody is taking it for what they think you meant to say, even if it wasn't what you meant. Doesn't matter, they will crucify you for it. We see this all the time happening to actors and people in the public eye. Being canceled because others don't like their opinions. But it also happens to everyday people who are just on sites like Reddit. People who post rants or are posting about how they feel, get slammed all the time.

Why is it that the world has become so cruel and people have become such haters? What makes your opinion so much better than somebody else's? That you have to put somebody down to feel better about yourselves. What happened to the days when you say your opinion is your opinion and my opinion is my opinion and we go on with our lives and still be friends?

So today my friends, I'll leave you with one of my mom's favorite sayings that says it all.

"Opinions are like assholes everyone has one"

Remember that! And don't be cruel. 

"Be the change you want to see"
