Unplugging
Unplugging
So last week I went on my annual girls trip. This was the 12th annual one that we have done. Every year me and 3 of my best friends plan and go away together to a different location. This year's trip was a road trip through the finger lakes of New York ending in Niagara Falls.
Trust me when I tell you that it never goes off without a hitch and this year was no different, with one of them missing their flight. But like always we rolled with it, giving the two of us some time to go into the city and to get my favorite foods pastrami sandwiches and Italian cannolis for the rest of them.
This trip was different for me. With all that's going on in this world lately, it has really affected me. There are times that I cry, because of all the hatred and non compassion that so many people have lately.
I decided that this trip I really needed to unplug so I was not going to talk about what was going on in the world after our initial car ride there and I wasn't going to go on social media. I didn't even post my blogs. That's how much I needed a break. I wanted to just be present in the moment with these ladies. I needed this for my soul and for my sanity.
I was with my favorite people in my favorite place, the mountains in my hometown. So I needed to be in touch without distractions, without all this mess going on, just to enjoy this time away.
Being in nature, hiking every day, being able to sit on the lake in the evening, having a drink and just laughing was just what the doctor ordered.
Just to be grateful for this time with these women and not to think about my bills, my problems or what is going on in the world was a blessing.
So today my friends remember some times we all need to unplug. We need to be present with our favorite people doing our favorite things without all the noise from the outside world. It will recharge you, it will give you a new attitude and you will come back as a new person.
We all need to be the change we want to see.
