Feeling Depressed With The World
Feeling Depressed With The World
So if you know me or follow me, you know that I am not usually a depressed person. I am always upbeat. I always see things positively, and most people say I'm the most positive person they've ever met.
Saying all of that, I also have to say, I'm human. And every once in a while, things get to me and lately, with everything that's going on in the world, it's been really hard for me to stay positive.
As much as I want to, it is really tough. Everybody seems to have lost their minds. They have lost their compassion, their kindness, and even their basic human decency to other human beings.
That is really hard to watch when you're the type of person that believes that everyone should have the same rights and everyone is equal. Especially when you're Christian and you believe in what Jesus taught. That you help out your neighbors, and that you have compassion for others that are suffering.
When you see so many people out here, especially the person that's supposedly running our country, calling people names and putting people down. A man who is “supposed to be Christian” who doesn't want to help others and wants to blow up the world. You can't help but be depressed because it feels like you're fighting a losing battle and sometimes I think we are.
Look, I know that good will always overcome evil and that eventually this will blow up in their faces and he will be thrown out and hopefully thrown into prison with his whole party. And then the Klan will go back and put their sheets back in the closets.
But for right now, it's a really hard world to live in. So I get it, I understand how people are feeling and even though I don't have depression often, I understand depression. Because at certain times in my life I had bouts of it like when I broke my arm and I couldn't exercise, and I couldn't write. I felt myself going into that dark hole.
I get a feeling like why bother? What is this all for? It's never going to change.
Sometimes I just feel myself circling around the drain. And I understand that's a scary feeling. It's a scary feeling, especially if you're an addict. You know that you go to, is to self medicaid to feel better. Every day you have to fight that urge to make it through to the next day without using. We do this One Day at a Time. One minute at a time, even one second at a time if we have to. That is what we learn in AA.
So today my friends my advice is that sometimes you need to reach out to a friend, to a therapist or your church. You need to do something that you love, you need to move your body. You need to change your mindset and trust me that changes things. You may need to take it one day at a time or one minute at a time, whatever you need, you do it to make yourself feel better.
Because we all need to be the change we want to see.
