Promoting yourself is a full-time job

Promoting yourself is a full-time job

I wrote the other day about having your own business and how hard it is sometimes. Funny thing is when I was talking with to my friend Halley yesterday (she has had her own business for years) we were both laughing about this. People think because you have your own business that it is easier, but that is the farthest from the truth.

Yes, there are some great benefits, you get to make your own hours and days, you get to charge what you want to for your services and you get to do what you love. Yes, I love all of that and that is why I own business but what they don't realize is the other side, the you have to do it all yourself side.

Your the Ceo, your the marketing guy, your the promotion guy, the advertising guy, the accounting guy, your it, your all of it. They think when you don't have clients, your sitting home eating bon bons, they don't realize that your out there hustling for your next dollar.

I do this times two... I am out promoting my professional organizing/personal assistant business and I am out here every day promoting my website, my book and my blog.

I am doing the social media for the blog and that entails 4 sites I blog on, plus my own website, Facebook, Twitter, Instragram and Pintrist.  Then I film and edit my Youtube videos and post them. ( I can tell you that is no easy tast) I have to post them at different times of the day, because I am trying to get new people interested in it.

Then I have to do all of that for my Organizing business. I am constantly coming up with new specials, email blasts, text message blasts, new advertising and what will fit into the budget, balancing the budget, if you even have a budget that month. Cancelling clients, clients that have to see you asap! Clients that can olny work at night or weekends, clients that think your on call 24/7 because your the boss.

There is also no sick days or vacation days with pay...oh sure I can take off whenever I want but I am sure as hell not getting paid for it.

I have to pay for my own health insurance and pay my own taxes. I have to balance my own books and try not to pull my hair out at the end of the month worrying about the cancelled clients.

Yes...we all think the grass is greener on the other side... yes wouldn't it be nice to have a steady paycheck, paid sick and vacation days, not all the responsibility, working your days and hours and that's it.
But then you might be dealing with a boss who sucks, a job you hate, back stabbing Coworkers...
there is always a trade off in every one.

So I will hold on...I will keep the faith, I know what I went through to get this business started, all the signs God gave me.

I will keep pushing this book and blog because I know this is my purpose, this is not work for me...I can write for hours and not even realize it.
And I know I will be helping others with my words.

Yes, there may be some days that I am overwhelmed, that I don't know where the next dollar will come from, but I am not a quitter, I have faith, I know it will be alright.

So today my friends, don't be so fast to think the grass is always greener on the other side, my one piece of advice is do what you love, it's not all about the money, it's about doing what you love, life is way to short, don't waste it doing something you hate!

Be the change you want to see"
