Celebrating true love

Celebrating true love

I haven't been anywhere since the start of the new year, and with this pandemic, well that ruined everything. I even had to cancel 4 trips, to say this year sucks is an understatement. So when a dear old friend called and said she was getting married, I knew without a doubt I was going to be there.

I've known her for as long as I've lived here, you know back in the dinosaur days. This was pre marriage, pre kids days. We went through a lot together, we were both in horrible verbally abusive marriages. We both stayed for the kids and endured years of pain because of it. We both emerged ourselves into yoga, dance classes, karate, kick boxing or anything else we could think of doing just to escape our marriages and do things together.

We told each other our dreams and plans, we would say one day when we were "free" we were going to do this or that. We cried in each other's arms when the pain was so bad and those dreams sometimes seemed impossible.

When she finally had the courage to leave her marriage I helped her pack and moved her into her new home. I will never forget the look of pure joy she had sitting on the floor with nothing around her but some boxes yet I had never seen her so look so happy. My heart overflowed with happiness for her even though I was still stuck. She was my hero, she did it, she did it for both of us and I felt as grateful as if it was happening to me.

I had hope that I was next, if she could do it then so could I. When she met a man a while later, I couldn't have been happier. He made her laugh, she said it was as if she found her best friend. I watched them overcome alot of obstacles, from both their familes and the world because they are an interracial couple.

For me he could have been short and green, it didn't matter, what matter was the size of that smile he put on her face every day. No, I wouldn't have missed this day for anything in this world. I would have traveled to the end of the earth to be here and be part of their celebration. Especially this year, I've learned not to take anything for granted, that life can change in an instant and that to be present in every moment.

And so today my friends, I am present here, to see these two beautiful people connect their souls forever and I am blessed to be able to be part of this….

I wish you many years of happiness my dear friend, may you and your husband be blessed with all of God's goodness until the end of time.

"Be the change you want to see"

"And just when the caterpillar thought his life over...he turned into a beautiful butterfly"
