 The right to vote

So people, there are 35 days until the election and I'm sorry I'm going to have to get out here and start blogging about this. This is one of the most important elections that we will ever be able to vote in. This will change history as we know it. This election will go down in the history books as the one election that will change everything in the United States of America. Mark my words.

What I don't understand is why so many people don't vote? I feel it is not only my right but my duty as an American citizen. It is my duty especially because I am a woman and so many women before me fought to get me this right.

Do you realize that women only got the right to vote 100 years ago? Now for many of us that is not too long ago, it's like our grandparents or great grandparents so it's not really that far off for us to imagine.

It's not so long ago that it didn't personally touch us. Most of us remember and knew our grandparents or great grandparents so we are not talking about our relatives that came over on boats 200 years ago.

It is not that long ago that we got this right and since the women before me came out and fought and died for that right that I get now, yes, it is my duty to honor them by voting. 

Did you know that now substantially more women come to vote than men? See we realize how much it took for that right and by God you are going to hear our voices.

Did you also know that black people didn't have the right to vote until 1965? That was only 55 years ago? And do you also know the statistics on non white  voters?

Well here are some facts from Census.gov:

Voter turnout increased to 65.3 percent for non-Hispanic whites, but decreased to 59.6 percent for non-Hispanic blacks in the 2016 presidential election. This compared to 2012, when more non-Hispanic blacks (66.6 percent) voted than non-Hispanic whites (64.1 percent) for the first time in this series.

In addition, voters ages 18 to 29 were the only age group to show increased turnout between 2012 (45 percent) and 2016 (46.1 percent), an increase of 1.1 percent. All older age groups either reported small, yet statistically significant turnout decreases or turnout rates not statistically different from 2012.

Did you know that it was only in  1924 that all Native Americans were granted citizenship and the right to vote through the Indian Citizenship Act, regardless of tribal affiliation. 

Now ain't that some shit when we stole their land in the first place??

 Also it took until 1943 for Chinese immigrants given the right to citizenship and the right to vote.

One of the most startling facts I've learned was about the number of immigrant eligible voters which has increased steadily over the past 20 years, up 93% since 2000. By comparison, the U.S.-born eligible voter population grew more slowly (by 18%) over the same period, from 181 million in 2000 to 215 million in 2020. 1 (Immigrant eligible voters are those ages 18 and older born outside the United States who have gained U.S. citizenship through naturalization.)

My point being is that the right to vote is not that old, and it's about these people, our great grandparents who fought and died for this right we now have. 

This is a disgrace that we do not, that every single one of us, do not vote. It should be a national holiday, it should be mandatory to vote as so many other people in other countries do not have this privilege and we do!

So today my friends, I'm here to tell you that this, our voice was made to be heard. People, your relatives fought and died for this right and we cannot sit by and do nothing.

Even if both candidates suck, it is still our right to vote.

This is the change we need now and you can make a difference, your one vote can change everything.

If you don't believe me look at Rosa Parks who one day said enough is enough. Her one voice started a moment that changed the world. Be that one voice, do your duty and vote!
