Therapy works

Therapy works

So if you know me or follow me, you know that I am a big believer in therapy. I have always been honest about my many times. I've decided to go back to therapy, and even when I put my girls in therapy. Look for me it's simple. If something is wrong with you, let's say your knees hurt. You go see a doctor to try to fix the problem. But why is it so hard to do this if something is not right in your head?
If you have a problem, you should try to fix it no matter what that problem may be.

Recently, I decided to go back to therapy, and I have been very vocal about it. I was in a situation that brought on my PTSD. I was crying almost every day. I was stressed to the point that I needed to be on medication. Something I have never done before or ever wanted to do, but these feelings were beyond my control, and I needed something to help me besides the therapy.

Therapy taught me about my triggers and what steps I needed to do to try to help me. But I realized that the end result was to take myself out of this situation. I wasn't giving up, I was choosing my mental health over anything else. I was putting myself first over money and over the perfect job. Just like I did when I walked away from my abusive marriage. Nothing is worth your sanity or your health.

When I recently met with my therapist, he said, "You look great and sound better." I am, I am back to my old self. I am no longer stressed or crying every day or needing any medication. I love life again and am grateful for what this taught me.

So today my friends, I am here to tell you that you are important. Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. You need to know it's okay to get the help you need. There shouldn't be a stigma on this subject. We need to talk about this, like I do all the time. So that we can learn to become whole, to know our triggers, what causes them, and to learn it's okay to walk away when it's affecting your well-being. Life is too short to be miserable in a job, in a relationship, or in life. You always have a choice to be the change you want to see.
