Handmaid's Tale Coming To A State Near You

If you never watched the show The Handmaid's Tale on Hulu, you have missed out. This show is set in the future in the United States and trust me there is a thin line between truth and fiction. In The Handmaid's Tale, Gilead is a totalitarian society that took over part of the United States. Gilead was ruled by a Christian fundamentalist regime and “took over” because the United States was faced with environmental disasters and a plummeting birth rate.

Does any of this sound familiar? Well, it should because it is happening now, right here in the good old USA. In a desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world, Gilead took all women's rights away and treated women as property of the state. Women cannot own businesses, cannot read, cannot have their own money. And the few remaining fertile women are forced into sexual servitude to the upper “government officials' families” forced to have sex and then give up their babies to these families.

One of these women, Offred, is determined to survive the terrifying world she lives in and to find the daughter that was taken from her. This story is presented from her point of view, going from a independent woman, wife, and mother to becoming a sex slave for these infertile government couples and losing everything she had. Hello, is any of this scaring you yet? Well, it should because this is what is happening right here, right now. 

When I first started watching this show, years ago I thought this could never happen in real life. But the more I watched the more I realized that, in fact, it can. It looks like it has been going that way pretty fast lately.

Women's rights are slowly being taken away. The LGBTQ community is feeling it already with the "Don't say gay" law that passed in Florida. Our so-called governor Deathsantis never called out his groups for picketing Disneyland with flags of Swastika, but then again neither did #45 at the time. These things are okay now, let's get our white sheets out of the closet and wear them proudly. It's okay now to openly hate other races, religions, or sexual orientations. And hey, while we are at it, let's put women back in their places. 

They are slowly but surely trying to take away our rights. They are banning books. They have made abortion illegal, with jail time, are you frigging kidding me? With caveats about people snitching on you, just as they've done with turning in illegal aliens. Wtf? Wait, am I still in the United States of America? Or did I just fall asleep and wake up in Gilead?

They are taking away healthcare, food for poor families, and services all in an attempt to make us poorer, more dependent and more subservient. 

In a second they can and will try to take away all of our rights, who's next? African Americans? Jewish? Different religions that don't fall in line? Anyone who doesn't agree with them. Hell, 47 is already trying to sue and close down the freedom of the press who post things he doesn't like. When does it stop? When we are Gilead? 

We must all stand up for each other, it doesn't matter if we are part of who they are after or not. Because once they come for me, they will come for you eventually and then who will speak for you? Let us never forget what happened in Germany, and the Holocaust. How slowly they took over and imprisoned and killed millions of people. All because we sat idle and did nothing. So many didn't believe it could happen or that it was going on and so they didn't speak out.

So today my friends remember as of now we still live in a free country but that is changing fast unless we unite and stand with each other making sure everyone, EVERY-ONE, gets equal rights. These are the rights our forefathers fought and died for and we must protect them. Go out, protest, vote, hell, run for office but do something even if it's not your cause because trust me one day it will be and then it may be too late.
