Speaking About What Moves Me

Speaking About What Moves Me

So if you know me or follow me you know that I usually don't post a lot of political things. Yes, I stand up for our rights and speak about compassion and rights for all. But it is mixed up with a lot of other things that I write about. I write about dating, my girls, friendship, inspiring yourself and whatever is going on in the world that touches my heart.

But lately I cannot help but write about what is going on in the world. Everyday I wake up with a heavy heart. Everyday I want to cry as I see how our beautiful country is changing. Now don't get it twisted I am all about change and do I think our government needs change? Absofuckinglutely. We need to cut out wasteful things, we need to stop government officials lining their pockets from the rich who want things passed. There are many things that need to change.

But not on the backs of the poor, veterans, the elderly or people who are different. Not by taking away our rights, poisoning our waters so that the rich can get richer, making the middle class the lower class and the lower class near impossible to live. All while the billionaires get richer.

I cannot sit by and say nothing. I cannot look myself in mirror and say I am Christian while turning away from children who are starving and the elderly having to choose between their medications or food.
I cannot in good conscience think it's alright to cut programs from the men and women who fought for our freedoms. You can't be a Christian and think this is okay. No, let me rephrase this, you can't be a decent human being and think this is okay.

And so I am apologizing in advance, I will be speaking out about these things a lot.
When I draw my last breath I want to know that I was on the right side of history.
I want to know that I used my voice here to speak out about the injustices going on. I want my girls to see me out there protesting, writing to my government officials and never giving up speaking for those who don't have a voice. I know I have privilege as white women, but even these privileges could be taken away and have been slowly taken away right in front of our eyes. One day I too, may have to depend on someone else to speak for me.

So today my friends, until that day comes, I will be speaking out and if this rubs you the wrong way I am sorry. I cannot change what I believe in to make someone else happy. I already did that for 24 years, and those days are over.
I hope that you will follow me on this journey to keep our freedoms and I truly hope that you will speak up as well because we all need to be the change we want to see.
