Protesting Can Bring Change

Protesting Can Bring Change

So I just watched the documentary about the Vietnam War on Netflix. During that time people were protesting the Vietnam War and because of this, because so many people spoke out, change happened.

People who saw this happen, saw the lies the government was telling them. They saw police beating protesters for no reason. They saw their leaders like John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, and Robert Kennedy killed for trying to change things and they decided enough was enough. They took to the streets, they made protest songs, and they stood together for what was right. And because of that, the government had to make a change.

You see, the reality of what that war represented had hit them. They knew that things were just not right in America. Everything that they admired about our country, everything that they associated with the American dream, everything they associated with America right or wrong was just disappearing. So that made it a lot easier to take a stand against the government.

And so they did just that, all over our country. They marched, they had sit-ins, and they protested. The press decided to go to Vietnam, to see firsthand what was going on. They knew the government was lying to them and needed to find the real story. They came back and spoke out and wrote about it. They showed all that they had filmed and what they captured on camera changed everything.

They wanted us to see what was going on and the country made a choice, they were willing to put their lives on the line for what they believed in. It was about hundreds of thousands of our troops that were dying and that this war was no closer to the end than it was from the start when we first went there.

At first, there were thousands, then there were tens of thousands and then there were hundreds of thousands of protesters. There was also music against the war, and protest songs that woke people up to what was going on. Change happened because we came together and demanded it.

So today my friends, I am here to say that protesting does work, and it can change things. We can change things, we the people. And Iately while I've been watching all these protests, I decided that I needed to participate in them as well.
I cannot sit and just write about what's going on in our country. I need to say I did my part, that I stood up for what is right. I need to be on the right side of history. I need to be able to say I did all I could to be the change I wanted to see and I know that protesting can bring change.
