Defending your Christianity 

I am sorry I am going here again. I am Christian, I go to church, and I read the bible but none of this makes me a real Christian. What makes me a real Christian is helping others, whether it is volunteering my time to a good cause. Or sending friends some gas money or dropping off groceries when I know a family is struggling. It's about helping my neighbors or opening up my home for people that have no family. 

Being Christian to me is having compassion for others, no matter if they are different from me in color or religion or sexual orientation. I love my neighbors, and I speak out for those who have no voice. I love all of them, and this is not just talk, come to my house for any party and it looks like the United Nations, just like Jesus taught me to do, to open my home and heart for everyone. 

I do not hate or want to kick out people who come to this country for a better life. I know my great grandparents came here from another country and so many other families as well. My soul sister who is Native American and has seen so much cruelty against her culture. She taught me that this is God's land and we are just the keepers of it. Something so profound that I have never forgotten it. 

I know being Christian is about love, kindness and compassion for all, not some, not the ones that look like us, but for all. And definitely not because you go to church or recite the bible.

I don't judge others but I can't for the life of me understand how you can be a “Christian” and stand behind this administration. They have all cheated, not once but multiple times on their spouses. They have lied and cheated in business. They are convicted felons. 

But Hey let's forget all that, let me ask you how are you okay with their policies? Policies that are taking things from the poor. That is taking away food for hungry children, for some that is the only hot meal they will have all day. That they are cutting health care for all but especially our elderly and veterans and children. That many will not have Thanksgiving this year because you think it's okay to cut off their snap benefits, tell me is that okay with you? Oh, how very Christian of you. 

What about services like suicide hotlines and mental care. Money out of the pockets of seniors who paid into the system for years and now have to pick between food and medicine. How is it okay that the billionaires are getting tax cuts but if you make less than 26,000 a year you will get a 52% tax increase?

Please tell me how any of this is okay? How do you justify this? How do you look at yourself in the mirror and call yourself a Christian? I need to know. 

Look, I am not perfect, far from it, read my blogs. I tell you this all the time. So no, I am not a “perfect Christian” 

Trust me I know I am not. But I know that the bible clearly says open your arms to the aliens.

Leviticus 19:33-34:

“When an alien lives with you in your land, do not mistreat him. The stranger who lives as a foreigner with you shall be to you as the native-born among you, and you shall love him as yourself”

Or that it says love thy neighbor eight different times in the Bible. Or that over 2000 verses say help others. These things I know and I do, every single day. That is what being Christian is all about, not just going to church. 

You need to walk the walk and talk the talk, and not just say your “Christian” and then be okay with what's going on. I call bullshit! Sorry, not sorry.

So today my friends, especially my so-called “Christian” friends, I would really like to hear why you are still supporting this administration? Is it because of the price of eggs? Was it because he proclaimed he was a “Christian” with his own personalized 19.99 Bible he was hawking to make money with? Was it because he admitted to his sins, repented and asked for forgiveness, oh wait, he never did that, because he's never wrong. 

Okay, so then what is? 

I really need to know because maybe I am missing something but at least it's not my soul.
