New York votes in an immigrant 

I am a New Yorker, I will always be a New Yorker, until my last breath, no matter where I live. See us New Yorkers are a different breed. We are loyal,and we accept all kinds of people because New York is the original melting pot. In 3 blocks you can see 30 different types of restaurants from all over the world. Walk another 4 blocks and you're

in 4 different neighborhoods where you will find blacks, whites, Christians, Jewish and Muslims all living together. 

This is where almost everyone's grandparents or great grandparents came into when they got off the boat from somewhere else. So yes, we all learned to get along with people who were different from us. 

So last night when an immigrant won the Mayor position in New York, I couldn't have been happier. Who better to represent New York than an immigrant. Someone who came here in search of a better life. That truly represents the American dream. Work hard and you too can have the dream. 

He knows what it's like to be put down, to take the crappy jobs with the crappy pay because you're an outsider and that's all you can get so you do it. And you dream.

You learn and you struggle but you don't give up and you dream. You get called names, you get treated like dirt, but you keep going and you dream. 

Then one day you can see the dream, you've worked hard and you persevered and now you too have the dream. This is all immigrants' dreams when they come to this country.

I don't care what religion he is. I don't care what country he came from. All I care about is that he cares about New York. He knows the difficulties of coming here from another country and building this life that he has right now. If you only see him for the color of his skin or from where he comes from, then there's something wrong with you. That's what's wrong with this country. Instead of bringing us together and showcasing what somebody else can do and being proud that others want to come, and to work hard for the American dream. Instead you and this administration want to divide the country and pit them against us. As if we all didn't come here from somewhere else. 

So today my friends let us all remember that unless you're Native American, you are on stolen land. This is not your country.This is their country that you stole and until you realize that and start treating everyone as equals. Well then, I feel sorry for you because in New York, and as a New Yorker, we don't feel that way, and we just showed that to the world last night. I've never been more proud of my hometown, New York.
