It's a all about me, world

I have to tell you how shocked I have been lately. People are all about themselves, they have no time, no patience or no compassion for others.
I even see this in my own church, oh yes I am going there...
This is the giving season where we all should be more caring about our fellow human beings yet it seems to be all about me for most people.

Once a year we ask our members of our church to come for our annual Church clean up day, we clean inside, wash windows, put down new mulch and get the church ready for the holiday season. We have 10,000 members, yes you read that right, and that day guess how many came to help? Don't bother you'll never believe if I tell you.

Maybe 100...yup that's it. Where is the other 9,900 members saying they love one another? Obviously sleeping in...

The last few weeks we been telling members that our annual feed the community thanksgiving drive is coming up, we asked for 12.00 from each member to buy turkeys and groceries.

Last year we fed 1000 families, we gave them 2 bags of groceries and a turkey. People that would otherwise not have a thanksgiving dinner, we provided one. This is my 4th year volunteering and every year, I cry at the heartwarming thanks we get from people, especially the elderly.

Well last night my Bishop said we didn't have enough money to reach our goal of 2000 families this year because we didn't get the 12.00 from everyone like we asked.

Ok, I am mad...how many people go to Starbucks everyday at 5.00 for a cup of their nasty coffee?  Please, but you don't have 12.00...how many people buy fast food everyday for lunch but can't give 12.00? Get real because I am real right now, people should be ashamed of themselves.

If not any other time of the year, is this the time of year for good will towards others? And yet people go about their, it's all about me lives.

Are we so disenchantment about the world we can't step out of our own way to see that we have homeless in this world, we have hundreds of thousands of hungry people that go to bed regularly with empty stomachs. Where is our compassion? Where is our love?

I don't remember a time in my life I didn't give back, that I didn't reach out to someone in need, I couldn't sleep at night knowing I could have helped someone and chose not to.

I volunteered at a rape crisis center because I knew what it felt like to be in their circumstances. I volunteered at homeless shelters because I couldn't imagine what it would feel like to be homeless.
I volunteer at my church for anything and everything because I am so grateful of how they opened their arms and took me in, how God and my Bishop feed me the word that has made me whole again.

I want to help in anyway possible because I am a human being and there before the grace of God goes I... Yes, that could have been me...at any time anyone of us could be homeless, hungry, without hope, thinking no one cares about them, that no one loves them...

I am going to make it my mission to let them know I care, I love them just because we live on the same planet, we breathe the same air, because there is no greater thing than love and it costs nothing to give.

So today my friends, think about what you are doing for others or are you too living in a it's all about me world.

This season when the world seems to be going crazy, help out, show the world that love is the most powerful gift there is.
You will never regret it.
