So are you a red neck or a city girl

So are you a red neck or a city girl?
Being back upstate brings out so many things in me, so many memories, so much happiness, but it definitely brings out the redneck in me.
I jump right back into hiking, 4 wheeling, fishing, swimming in the lakes and streams, all the things I so miss living in South Florida.
Growing up here I thought I hated it here. I wanted to be a city girl. Every weekend my family went back into the city, I loved the fast times, the lights, the action. I couldn't wait to be part of it, I bought all my clothes there, I talked like a city girl, I walked like a city girl.
I was not going to be a redneck, I was going to go down kicking and screaming.
Somehow without me even knowing, little by little I grew to love all things "country"
I loved motorcycle riding through the woods, horseback riding for miles, fishing, hiking and seeing all the beautiful colors of fall, picking blueberries at the lake, laying on a big rock in the summer listening to the waterfalls, all the things I thought I hated.
Moving to South Florida, made me that much more homesick, not only did I miss the country surprise, surprise but I missed the hour and 20 minute drive to Manhattan whenever I needed my fix of the city.
Its flat, there are no forests, no lakes, no streams, no real city (Okay, I am biased, no city compares to the greatest city on earth, NYC)
People are different there, New Yorkers are a different breed, they just are.
But coming home always brings out the redneck in me and last night, 4 wheeling up the mountains with my oldest and dearest girlfriend, in the forest, by the river, reminded me of how much I love it here.
So today my friends, I will readily admit to you all, I am definitely a reckneck, with a side of city girl.
Maybe we dont have to pick, maybe we all can be a little bit of everything we encounter, maybe all the things we love, we can add them into our being and that will make us grow, make us more tolerant of others, of different cultures and lifestyles...maybe just maybe every encounter will make us just a little better.
"Be the change you want to see"
