Speaking out a out Domestic Violence
Speaking out about Domestic Violence
Yesterday I was blessed to be able to speak on a panel of women about domestic violence.
This was hosted by Pastor Belinda John, a woman who knows all too well about being in that situation.
She was married to a well-known pastor, and they had their own church, prestige, and standing in the community. But behind closed doors she, herself was the victim of domestic violence. Since leaving her marriage, she has been a leading force to help other women see the warning signs of sociopath, psychopath, narcissistic, and controlling men. She brings women together to speak of their testimonies and help others. She reached out to me on social media reading my posts and stories. See you never know what doors God is going to open for you.
I was honored to be able to do this for her as this subject is so near and dear to my heart. This is my purpose and my passion. I did not go through 24 years of abuse not to be able to help others. I truly believe my message and the messages of these women will help others. I want people to know the red flags, the love bombing, the tricks these people pull to suck you in.
But what we really want to teach these women is self-love and self-respect for themselves. When you have that, you know your worth and you won't accept that type of behavior from anyone. We must teach these women, especially these young girls that they are complete on their own, and that God is the only one you need to run after.
We need to reinforce in them that they are beautiful, strong, smart, independent young women and that you teach someone how to treat you. If you know who you are, then you will not accept less than. If we teach them that then they won't fall prey to these attacks.
I am big on always being real and a lot of the women today are so self-centered, so caught up with trying to keep up with the housewives of who gives a shit that they don't care about other women or even the next generation.
These women of God and especially Pastor Belinda are passionate about changing this,
as am I. I hope to be able to speak about this in more churches, at women's events, and at schools as we need to put this out there. This needs to be talked about often.
Here are some startling statistics from the Domestic Violence hotline website:
On average, 24 people per minute are victims of rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in the United States.
More than 12 million women and men over the course of a year.
Nearly 3 in 10 women (29%) and 1 in 10 men (10%) in the US have experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by a partner and report a related impact on their functioning.
Nearly, 15% of women (14.8%) and 4% of men have been injured as a result of IPV that included rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
1 in 4 women (24.3%) and 1 in 7 men (13.8%) aged 18 and older in the United States have been the victim of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
More than 1 in 3 women (35.6%) and more than 1 in 4 men (28.5%) in the United States have experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
Nearly half of all women and men in the United States have experienced psychological aggression by an intimate partner in their lifetime (48.4% and 48.8%, respectively).
Females ages 18 to 24 and 25 to 34 generally experienced the highest rates of intimate partner violence.
From 1994 to 2010, about 4 in 5 victims of intimate partner violence were female.
Most female victims of intimate partner violence were previously victimized by the same offender, including 77% of females ages 18 to 24, 76% of females ages 25 to 34, and 81% of females ages 35 to 49.
These are staggering numbers and they can happen to anyone, smart, rich, poor, white, or black, doesn't matter it can happen to you or it has happened to you or a loved one. Don't believe it read those facts again...1 in 3...
1 in 3...that's huge.
So we must start talking about it more, we must educate our young people before these statistics become worse.
So today my friends, I hope you will share my posts, bring them to your church, and open up discussions about this. Bring them to your schools, your groups. Bring people in to talk about this, and have conversations and conferences to educate people.
I will continue my fight against domestic violence and hope you will join me and these amazing women who stand with me to make a difference.
And as I say at the end of every blog...
"Be the change you want to see"
"And just when the caterpillar thought his life over...he turned into a beautiful butterfly"
