Why I love going back home
Why I love going back home
I am blessed to be able to go home every year. Some years I get there a few times but no matter how much I get to go, I know I am blessed. My home town for those of you who are new to my blog is the one and only New York. I was lucky enough to have moved from the Bronx to upstate and have the best of both worlds.
I love the city, the fast pace, the traffic, the noise, the people, oh those crazy people! Yes, I love the architecture, the different neighborhoods, the culture, and the food, which goes without saying.
I love the parks, the theater, the city that never sleeps, I love everything about the city.
I also love the country, yes, New York has country, some of the most amazing country you have ever seen. The mountains, the rivers, the streams, the waterfalls, each one more breathtaking then the next. I love the dew in the morning with the crisp air. I love the sound of crickets at night, the stars and the fireflies that dance over your head while your sitting out in front of the open bonfires.
I love the feel of the cold water when you first jump into the lake, or the site of a bald eagle while your rafting down the Delaware river on a lazy summer day.
I love the slow pace, how we take time to appreciate the little things in life, like coffee with a old friend. I love the history my town has as being the biggest love and peace festival in the world, the infamous Woodstock.
I love how everyone knows one another and looks out for each other and how even after 40 years we still have these amazing friendships. These are the peeps that knew you back when....
When you were a snot nose kid, before you even knew who you were or who you were going to be. They were your first friends, your first boyfriends or girlfriends, your first lovers, they are the people who know you best...and worst and still love you.
I am lucky enough to still have many friends that still live there and every year I make time to hang out with all of them.
Each one brings a different aspect to my life, each one so very different and yet still the same as we all have this bond that holds us together.
Yes, this bond that is our hometown, this special place that formed us, that made us who we are today.
So today my friends, I am here to give a shout out to my favorite place, a place that no matter where I am living will always be home to me.
My hometown New York, thanks for the memories....

"And just when the caterpillar thought his life over...he turned into a beautiful butterfly"
