Father's Day Special Treat

So yesterday was Father's Day and it's been 45 years since I lost my dad. There are moments when I think of him and it still takes my breath away. It still hurts so bad.

I remember when I was writing my book, I had the opportunity to be able to write about so many wonderful memories that I had with my dad.

I was blessed with a wonderful dad who not only paid child support but paid above what he was told to. He also paid for vacations, summer camp, doctor and dentist, braces and sports, school clothes, summer clothes, and whatever else I needed. 

He drove 3 hours every Sunday to come and see me. He drove in the rain, snow, sleet, or hail, none of that ever stopped him.

One Christmas, there was a blizzard, and my mother said I don't think he's coming, but I knew my dad and refused to open my gifts unless he was there. It took my dad 5 hours to get there, but he made it because he never let me down. 

He never missed a school play or a conference, as he was always there for me.

He took me to his house for Easter breaks and summer vacation, and even took me to work with him because I begged. He taught me how to work on cars, to care about my appearance, and to be someone that you can always depend on. He never spoke a bad word about my mother, even though they were divorced. He never raised his voice or cursed at her because he was always a true gentleman. 

He cared about his appearance. He dressed at all times, in silk shirts, leisure suits, and fancy shoes, and his car was always shiny and looked new. He was kind and funny and was the best father I could have ever wished for!

I judge all men by my father's life. Is he truly a good man? Can he live up to what a great man is? As I know what a great man is because I was raised by one.

God had also blessed me with a wonderful stepfather. He taught me to ride a bike and helped me with my homework and projects. He taught me all I know about building and fixing things as he believed that women can do just as much as men. He was kind and sweet, and he loved me like I was his own.

I also had Sam, my big daddy, he was a family friend for as long as I could remember. He taught me to believe in the unknown and to believe in miracles. He taught me spiritually and on the opposite side he taught me to shoot pool. He was always there for me when I needed him. He was like a father to me as well.

These men of God showed me what a real man looks like. What a real man acts like, and one day, I know that I will find a real man just like them. I know that now all of these men are with my true father, the Lord. God has taught me that one day I will see them all and that he is here for me now.  

So today, my friends, this message is to all the other real men I know in my life. Thank you for being a role model to others, and letting the world see that there are still other real men out there who do the right thing. Remember children need a father or father figure in their lives, a good role model so they will know what a good man is.

And to these three wonderful men that I was blessed to call father or father figures, I miss you each and every day. I love you, and you will always be in my heart by showing me what a real man looks like.
