Remembering The Holocaust

So I watched the documentary Unbroken on Netflix about a family of 7 who were hidden by a couple, the Schmidts during the war and away from the Natzis 

In 1935 the Natzis passed the Nuremberg laws that revoked the citizenship of German Jews. In 1938, 19 restrictive laws were passed just as a preemptive measure to what was to come. Any of this sounding like what's going on now?? World War 2 was when the Natzis took on their violent, murderous character. Then began the deportation from Berlin that began in 1941. 

Bella Weber was a survivor of this family said at a memorial to the Schmidts 

“There is so much evil in the world that is always overcome by so much goodness and I think it is incumbent upon us to remember that the good always outweighs the evil”

As I watched this I wondered how they held on to this thought? When it seemed the world had gone crazy and they fought every day to not be killed. But then you see that there was the kindness of these people who against all odds decided to hide these children. They knew they would be killed if they were found out and yet they still did it. Their compassion for other human beings' lives overruled the fear of being killed for them. 

They were going to help any way they could, they were fighting in their own way to make something good, out of evil and they did. We are in this same situation right now. We see these things going on like grabbing people off the streets because of the color of their skin. Deporting them without due process, stripping our laws and rights little by little. If you can't see that we are going down the same road, you need to reread these books. We need to allow our children to watch and read about the holocaust. They need to know what happened so that it can be stopped now, so that history doesn't repeat itself. 

We need to know it's not okay to kill or silence free speech. When one group is targeted, that turns into many groups being targeted. That once hatred rules, evil takes over.

When they try to make people poorer and dumber they will be able to take over easier. When you lose your compassion, you lose your humanity.

We must not ever forget the past. And we must not ever let the past repeat itself. If more people read about the holocaust or Mussolini in Italy, how these dictators took over they would see that it is the same thing that is going on right now.

So today my friends, remember the past always repeats itself. Unfortunately, we are not smart enough to learn the lessons but we must try. We must speak out, we must protest, we must stand up for those are are being prosecuted. 

Because if we do not we will be writing about this time in history books. When America was taken over, when we lost our freedoms and the Constitution no longer meant anything. 

Think it can't happen? Better start reading those books they are trying to ban before they are gone to see what will happen. 

We must all speak out to be the change we want to see.
