What Have We Learned Since Covid?
What have we learned since Covid?
4 years ago the world changed with Covid. It was something we could have never imagined. The whole world shut down. People were panicking and people were dying by the thousands. We were stuck with our families and we saw what the world looked like with so much hatred and racism. But we have seemed to forget about what happened, because now we are back to normal.
I always try to see the good in life and yes, even in covid. I know for me not working and bringing in money was hard since I'm a single parent. I also decided to end a long term relationship as my daughter was having a hard time and I already knew that this relationship wasn't going anywhere.
This gave me time to spend quality time with my girls and to get intouch with myself and my needs. I couldn't run out there and start dating to “cure” my broken heart. I had to sit and explore what I wanted and really feel the pain and go through it. See we are always being so caught up in our lives, always on the run and this gave us time to let all of that go. It gave us all time to spend quality time with our children, and our families and most importantly ourselves.
For me, to keep us all busy, I taught them how to do home projects. How to use power tools and to build something from scratch. We got to cook together, exercise together and we got to know our neighbors.
Every weekend our neighbors across the lake would put on a performance and everyone came out to listen. So we got to know each other and with that we learned to ask them if we could help. We learned to share with others. Our food, our money, and our ear to listen. The world stopped and we got to really listen, and to be present in the moment because we were all so afraid that this may be our last moments.
But it seems we have forgotten all of that. It's back to how many likes can we get. It's all about me, me me once again. And it's sad that we didn't keep that feeling of not knowing what will happen next, so let's be present in this moment.
I know for me I lived my life like this, even before Covid but Covid made it more important to me, it drove home the fact that you never know what will happen.
I don't want to forget that I lost people that I loved. I don't want to forget that life can change in a second. I don't want to forget that I cannot control everything around me. I don't want to forget that social media is not real life, but that this moment with your loved ones is. And you may never get that moment back.
So today my friends, remember anything can happen. Just like that life can be different. We need to remember, that is what covid taught us. We will not be here forever so forget the dishes, the likes don't matter, spend time with the people you love, be present in the moment, like your life large because we are not guaranteed tomorrow.
