Shooting in my city

Shooting in my city

This weekend there was a mass shooting in my city, Fort Lauderdale Florida.

It took place in our local airport where a man who had a gun checked in his luggage, went into the bathroom took out the gun, loaded it and came out shooting 5 innocent people and wounding 8 others.

These people who woke up that morning, maybe excited because they were going on vacations or coming home from seeing loved ones out of state. They kissed the ones they loved goodbye, they never thought they would never see them again, that this day would be their last day on earth.

Yes, you can blame the government for gun control, you can blame the gun companies, you can even blame the airport for lack of security but bottom line is this was a mentally disturbed man who on that day decided his life and the people around him lives didn't matter and chose to do such a terrible act.

We can debate this issue all day but there will always be mentally ill people, their will be haters of others, their will be people willing to kill and die for their beliefs, no matter how warped they might be, they are determined to kill others.

The loss of life means nothing to them, they are not thinking that could be someone's mother or father, someone's daughter or son, husband or wife. That this one act can destroy whole familes, that the people around them who did survive will never forget what they saw for the rest of their lives.

We don't know on any morning we wake up if this is our day, if today will be our last day. You can cross the street and get hit by a bus, you can get into a car crash or like these poor people you can be going about your day excited about where you are going and in a split second, it all can be over.

Did you apologize to that family member? Did you do all that you wanted to? In your last minutes what would you be regretting? What would you change if you had a chance?

Well lucky for us we have a new day to start over, to change, to do things differently, don't make the mistake that you can do this tomorrow, or that you still have time...later on. You might not have a tomorrow, so why are you not doing all of this now?

I tell you all the time life is so short and every time I hear something like this it reminds me that the clean house, the dishes, all the bullshit we think is important is not. All the little stuff we stress over is just that little, that we only have one life, spend time with loved ones, leave the laundry, pick up the phone call someone you love, say your sorry, forgive someone, take that walk on the beach, cut out of work to have some fun, laugh more, dream bigger, start your bucket list and do it.. today not tomorrow which was my father's favorite saying... do it now!

So today my friends remember tomorrow is not always a given, it is a gift, so treat it that way...laugh often, live large and love big because we never know if this might be our last day.
