My wild group of friends

Yesterday I wrote about my amazing friends who are always there for me. I am truly blessed to have so many friends in my life.

While they were over this weekend I couldn't help but notice what a mixed group they were. I have all kinds of friends and it reminds me of growing up, at any given time in our home we had black friends, Chinese friends, Jewish friends, gay friends and hell even drag queens at our table. My mother always opened her door and heart to everyone.

So this group isn't very far off from my childhood. My girlfriend from New York is a real county girl, no makeup, could care less about designer anything just really down to earth. We've been friends as long as I can remember.
My other girlfriend from Minnesota is a Native American, who grew up on a reservation. We met while volunteering at Habitat for humanity. She is one with God and the earth and is the salt of earth, one of the kindest and realest people I know.

We then have my "church husband" who reminds me of huggy bear from that old seventies show, complete with New York attitude and Pimp Daddy suits. No one would ever guess that he is a teddy bear and one of the kindest, gentlest men I know.

My friend G who use to live across the street from me and had always watched out for me and my girls, is also a New Yorker. You know the kind, hat on backwards, tats and a I will fuck you up, in your face attitude but with a heart of gold.

Then there is my other neighbor Frank, he's from Nicaragua. He's my guardian angel, always there for me with a helping hand, a friendly ear and a kind heart.

Then we have my single mom's crew Carmen who is Puerto Rican and as loud as hell but will be there for you through thick and thin and always tells it like it is whether you want to hear it or not.
And Denise who is black, a social worker and is always there a soft ear and kind words, the total opposite of Carmen. Both are friends to the end and we help each other through thick and thin.

My girlfriend Lyra is black and is from St. Martin and looks like she will kill you on site but when you get to know she is one of the funniest, sweetest people you can meet.

Sol is from Nicaragua as well and she is crazy and loud and funny and has your back because she has the biggest heart.

Demo is a black, deaf gospel artist and actor who is the life of the party and is so funny you would never guess what he's been through in his life, yet he keeps smiling.

Griselle is another Puerto Rican friend of mine who has been in my life for as long as I can remember since I moved to Florida. She has always been a rock for me and I can't imagine my life without her.

Stephen is white and goes to my church. He's a sweet, quiet man from up north and I have no idea how he got thrown in with this crazy bunch of friends. I just know he's a great guy who I am blessed to call my friend.

This hodgepodge of mixed matched friends are the people that have my back, who love me for me, that are there for me whenever I need them and I for them.
These crazy, loud, funny, off the wall group of friends are the family I pick for myself. And I am so blessed to be able to call them my friends.

So to all of you that showed up and showed out for me this weekend, just know how much I love you all. You are the most amazing bunch of friends a girl can wish for.

So today my friends out there, my wish for you is that you appreciate the people in your life. They may not be perfect but trust and believe they will be there for you. It is then you will realize how truly blessed you are, like I am with my crazy bunch of friends.
