Why are we always asking for things?
Why are you always asking for things?
I remember my Bishop once asking us this question, why are we always asking God for things? I thought of this because the day before I spoke about being here at the beach and how I was giving thanks to him, not asking for anything, just giving thanks for all the blessings in my life.
I was grateful for waking up, for my health and my girls health, for being able to be there at the beach. I was grateful to be able to see all of his glory in the sky, the water, the sand, to be able to walk in the water, see the clouds and hear the birds.
I gave thanks for all of these things, I am so grateful for it all. There is not a day that I don't wake up and I don't give thanks for all of this that I have.
But I understand what Bishop was talking about, we all ask God for things, me included but so many people do so without giving thanks. Now really, would you put up with a friend who did that to you? If they always were asking you for things and you gave, again and again but they never said thank you. After a while you'd say "Oh forget this, they are not grateful, they only come to me with their hand out, never with a word of thanks, that's it we're done!"
Come on you know it's true, that's exactly how it would be.
So why is it okay to do that with God? Why do we think we can ask and ask of him and give nothing back or even be grateful? Why is it that so many people never speak to him, hardly believe in him but when a tragedy comes, or here comes hard times, who's name is first on their tongues? Yup, here they go crying "Dear God help me"
But yet we don't ask him for help in our everyday lives, we don't go to him about decisions, we don't appreciate what he has already done in our lives but we are quick to run to him with a problem.
See me, well I am so grateful, it sometimes makes me cry. I can't give enough praise for all he's done in my life. There are not enough words to say thank you and I want everyone to know it.
I know where I've come from, I know what hell looks like, I've hit rock bottom on more than one occasion. I know what it feels like to be lost, to be alone and hurting, to hate your life, to hate waking up every morning. That is why I have such graduate for all he's done, I know where he's brought me from.
So today my friends remember to stop, to take a moment not to ask for anything but to give thanks for all you have, from all he's brought you've through, from all that is coming. Say a prayer of thanks every day when you wake up and when you go to sleep. Tell the world what he has done in your life, share his message. It's really simple, it's just two little words mean the world...thank you...thank you… thank you.
