My thoughts on Facebook
My thoughts about Facebook
In the last 7 years I've had a lot of changes in my life and because I write this blog and I am so open about it, everyone knows all about my life. I have to tell you some of the responses I have gotten throughout these 7 years have brought me to tears. The support and the love I have received on Facebook is overwhelming and I truly appreciate it.
I remember when I got approved for my new home and finally went to closing, so many of you reached out to me, telling me how proud you were of me and how far I've come. For someone who for so many years was put down and belittled, it was hard. Having him tell me I could never do anything on my own, your words were music to my ears.
To know and have the support of so many friends and family gave me the courage to try other things and to know that I could do anything.
Facebook has also allowed me to reconnect with so many old friends that I have lost touch with over the years because he wouldn't allow me to talk to them. Without this platform I would likely have never found again. I reconnect with my first best friend Cookie, through her cousin here. I also reconnected with my dear cousin Carol, my "Mod squad" crew Gino and many other high school friends, that I have missed so much.
For me, I don't have anyone who isn't my personal friend or family on my page. See I don't need a million people on my page just the important ones.
The people that I have on my Facebook page are people I actually talk to on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. They are actually my real friends and not just my "Facebook friends"
I also keep up with family that is spread out all over the county. I get to see their kids and grandkids grow up, I am still part of their lives even though we don't get to see each other often.
Especially during this crisis where so many of us are feeling down about being stuck at home during this pandemic, it gives comfort to know we are not alone. I know for my ex mother in law this is her life line to the outside world as she cannot get out anymore. The phone we bought her is one of the best gifts she says we got her.
This is the great thing about this platform, you can give support and encouragement to someone. You can be happy for their victories and feel sorrow for their pain. You can make them laugh and they can make you laugh when you're down, just by seeing their posts.
It can make you feel less alone when you think no one understands. You can stand up for your beliefs with others and come to realize that everyone has their own opinion and that's cool too.
People talk bad about Facebook, they say it's a breeding ground for cheating. Yeah, because no one cheated before Facebook right? Get real!
Yes, you can find more people but you can also do that online as well. You say you don't want to know everyone's on goings, okay, so don't read them. You say people you don't like are on there, well that is what the unfriend button is for, use it.
Recently it allowed us to really see who people were, especially during the BLM when many friends ended up showing us that they were closet racists. Many friends were so hateful just because your views were different from theirs, and many friends were deleted or blocked because they couldn't play nice in the sandbox with others.
For me Facebook is a community of people that you chose to be in your life. To share your good times and have support for the not so good times. To keep in contact with loved ones and find long lost friends. It is a platform for great things if you chose to use it that way. Look I write my blog on here every day and I actually get to help encourage people with my words. How amazing is that?
So today my friends, use Facebook like you would in real life. If you want to catch up with someone go for it, if there is a negative person, cut them out of your life. If you don't want to hear someone's crap, block them, it's easy as that but it all starts with you, you get to choose.
To all my Facebook friends and family, I want you to know how much I appreciate your love and support, thanks for always being there for me, I love you all.
