What Does It Mean To Have Empathy?
What Does It Mean To Have Empathy?
Empathy is when you care about someone else's cause. Even though they are not your causes.
Empathy is caring about families being torn apart even though you have your family together.
Empathy is worrying about the elderly and how they are going to choose between their medications or to eat because they don't have enough money. Even though you don't need to make that choice.
Empathy is about standing with someone of another color, of another religion, with another person who chooses to love a different type of person than you do. And even though you don't know exactly what they're going through, you can empathize with them and you stand for their rights as well as your own.
Empathy is having compassion for children that only get one hot meal a day, if they're lucky, when you have a refrigerator full of food and yet you keep fighting to allow them to have a free hot lunch.
Empathy is wanting healthcare for all, even when you can afford your own and you are healthy.
Empathy is wanting and welcoming others that come here legally to have a chance of a better life. To have them and all brown, and black people, not be brutalized just because of the color of their skin.
This is empathy, and unfortunately so many people who have voted for this man and this government in office, chose not to have.
They chose to say that they are Christians, but yet are not willing to do what the Bible tells them to do. Or maybe they are reading their 19.99 Trump version of the bible that doesn't include feeding the hungry or taking in the immigrants or even being kind and loving our neighbors, like we love ourselves.
This is not about being left or right. This is not being Republican or Democrat. This is being a decent human being.
When will you see this? When will you realize we are not fighting you because we are Democrats and you are Republicans? We are fighting you because we're human beings concerned for other human beings' rights. We want better for not just ourselves but for everyone. How hard is that to comprehend? It's not all about me, it's all about we. We are Gods' children. We all bleed red and we should come together and help each other.
I don't understand how hard this is for you to get. It's pretty simple: we just don't want things for ourselves, we want the things for others, just like we have.
The United States of America was that place that everybody thought it was the promised land. That would accept you, that you could make a better life for yourself and your family. It used to be the melting pot of the world. Sadly it's no longer that, and it's so sad to say that.
Some of you have told me to stay in my own lane. Friends and family have cut me off. People said, when will you shut up about this? And I'm sorry I can't, and I won't, and actually I'm not sorry about it at all. I believe in equal rights for everyone. I believe that if I don't speak out as a white, privileged woman who will speak out for me when I am being oppressed.
I will not stop writing about it, this is a gift that God gave me to touch other people by my words. I will not stop protesting even when they decide to call me a domestic terrorist. Even when put me in jail. The only way I will stop is if they kill me. That will be the only way I will shut up. So if you want to unfriend me, unlike me, unfollow me, hey, knock your socks off. I will still be doing me. I will still be doing what is right. I will still be speaking out until everyone around me and in this world has some empathy.
So today, my friends. Why don't you take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself, why don't you have empathy? It's a really tough question.
Why do you think you're better than somebody else?
Why do you think you deserve more than somebody else?
Why do you think that other people should suffer and not you? The only question is do you have empathy? And are you a decent human being? Only you can answer that. Or maybe you already have, by what you stand for, what you post, and who you voted for. Trust and believe the world sees who you are and will remember who you are and what you stood for. And one day, you will have to atone for what you did or didn't do and hey, that's on you.
Like, I say at the end of every blog, only you can be the change you want to see.
