Gloria Steinem's Famous Last Words

Gloria Steinem was the world's greatest voice of the women's rights movement. She was a writer, a lecturer, a magazine editor and a political activist. She was the first woman to speak at the National Press Club. She co founded New York magazine and Ms. Magazine, the first national publication by women, for women and controlled by women. 

For more than five decades, she was the most enduring and recognizable name in the women's movement. With her passing, the world has lost one of the most important women of the century in the fight for equality. 

It's a sad day that this pioneer of women rights is no longer here. She paved the way for all of us to have the rights that we have now. And the rights that we have now lost. Especially with Roe vs Wade, which she fought for so many years for that right. We wouldn't be able to have our own bank accounts or even our own credit cards without her fight. 

So these are her last words. “I wish I could meet each one of you in person. But in a way, this is what allows us now to see each other's lives, to influence each other's lives. To respect each other and so therefore, perpetuate what we hope, that there's a global democracy. Please feel free to respond in any way you can. And please tell your own story. This is one of the most important things that we can do for each other is to know each other through stories. And I hope so much that whoever you are, listening right now, you are able to do what you love and to be who you are and also know the unique person that you are”

So today my friends, we have lost another truly remarkable woman who changed our lives as we know it. A woman who had the courage to fight for years to try to make this a better place for all. Who believed that we all deserved equal rights, Women, Blacks, Native Americans, the LGBTQ community, and everyone else. We need to keep the fight going so that she didn't spend her life in vain. 

Thank you, Ms. Gloria Steinem, for all you've done, we will try to keep your legacy going by keeping up the fight.

Let's all be like her and be the change we want to see.
