Why fast?

This is a question a lot of people seem to be asking me when I tell them I am fasting. Why are you fasting?

For us as a church, it is to be able to give back to God and to bring us closer to him. To open us up to hearing his voice and the things he wants from us in the upcoming year.

I was asked last night "Come on, why can't you eat sweet potatoe pie, it's made with sweet potatoes?" Or "Who says you can't watch TV or listen to the radio?"
It's not about people telling me what to do, because if you know me or read my blog, trust and believe no one is telling me anything, I am hard headed.

See what he didn't understand is that I want to do this, this is a special time between me and God. This time is to show him what he means in my life, how grateful I am for all he has done for me and to start this year showing him, that he comes first.

So giving up on food, TV, social media or other things, it is a way that is free of distractions, so that you can see and hear God clearly.
Look at the amount of time that is allotted by God to us each day and what do we do with that time?
Are we reading the word? Listening to God's word?
No, we have time to play games on our phone, check social media, text our friends but where is God's time?

So during this time we take away our distractions so we can fill our minds with only God. We know that fasting is all through the bible "Even now return to me with fasting"

We need to realize that we need to make a change, we need to make a impact in our community, in others lives. God wants us to make a impact. We need to change, to take stock in what we've done and what we are going to do, to prepare us for what God wants for us, what he has for us.
In the bible it says certain things will only happen with fasting.

There is nothing more fulfilling then declaring your faith. It is a personal decision to follow Jesus.
We are here to ask for his help, we are here giving our lives over to God.

There are 4 things we need to do in our fatih walk:

1.Our number one priority is to please God.

2. To worship him.

3. To live a successful faith walk.

4. And to wait for the second coming of Jesus.

These are the things we need to do to be successful in our faith walk. Do not be afraid of what you believe in, tell others who you follow.
You must make a decision to say you follow Jesus.

You may be persecuted for you decision, you may be criticized, mocked and put down or hear people say "Eat that pie" but you need to stay on your path.

The problem with us as humans is that we love because of...
he loves despite of...

In the bible it mentions love 310 times. Agape love is what he preaches, we need to live out our lives in agape love.
We need to realize that we all bleed red, that we will all be going in the ground and we will not be taking anything with us. That all that we acquired here on earth, that you thought meant so much, that gave you such "status" will be gone when we die. What will matter is what we did while we were here. Who we helped, who we loved, if we lived God's word.

We sometimes forget what is truly important in life. We want to keep up with the Jones, whoever the hell they are. We act as if we deserve it, if it's owed to us yet we do nothing to give back to God who gave us our very life.

So today my friends, this is why I fast. I will leave you with one of my favorite songs Albaster box:

I can never give him back all he's done for me. You weren't there the night he found me,  you didn't know what I felt like when he wrapped his loving arms around me and you don't know the cost of the oil, in my Alabaster box.
I can't forget the way life use to be, the way I was a prisoner to the life that had me bond. I spend my days poured my life without measure into a little treasure box I thought I found.
Until the day, when Jesus came to me and healed my soul with the the wonder of his touch so now I'm giving back to him all the praise he's worthy of, I've been forgiving and that's why I love him so much"
