Our healthcare system sucks

Yes, I said it our healthcare system sucks! I can say that because as a single mom who is also self employed, I have to pay for my own health insurance. And because I have so many other responsibilities I cannot afford the best policy but hey, at least I can afford something which is better than nothing... well....maybe that is true, but for me, it is still debatable. 

I say all of this because this past weekend I laid in my bed with pains in my chest and I debated on whether or not to go to the hospital. Why, you ask would I do something like that? Especially when I know I have such a horrible family history of heart disease? It's because I kept going over in my head how much was this going to cost me? How was I going to pay for this? Could I afford these bills?

Yes, it is terrible that I would even be thinking these things when I was feeling so bad but this is the reality we live in, in this country. So many of us are afraid to get help, to go to the doctor or hospital because we don't have healthcare or we have lousy healthcare. 

And that my friends really sucks! We live in what was once, one of the greatest countries in the world and we have the worst healthcare system ever!

People are literally dying because they cannot afford to pay for medicine, they go without eating to pay absorbent amounts of money on their prescriptions. 

While big pharma and the politicians are lining their rich pockets off of our elderly and our sicknesses! This has to stop, we need to do something about this together because this is not right! 

They even went so far as to pay for ads on television to tell us to ask us our doctors about this or that medication, with a list of frigging side effects longer than your arms. Does that make any sense at all? 

Here is something that is shocking, The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services estimates that prescription drug expenditures in the United States came to some 333 billion U.S. dollars in 2017. This amount includes only retail drug spending, excluding nonretail.

333 billion!!! And we can't afford better healthcare?? It goes in to say:

The United States is also the country with the highest total drug prices. For example, the price for the blockbuster drug Humira was more than three times higher in the United States than in Switzerland in 2015. But whereas in other countries' governments more or less directly control drug prices, the U.S. leaves drug pricing to market competition. As a consequence, the U.S. market is the most profitable for pharmaceutical companies. 

Listen to this lovely fact: nearly half of all Americans have taken at least one prescription medicine within the preceding month. 

Maybe you should read that again because we are getting royally fucked here people! 333 billion dollars that they are making off of us! 

Wtf is going on here?? And why are we letting this happen?

Our parents are dying, our loved ones are dying, our children are dying here, people! Because we are allowing the government and big pharma to control us. We are talking medications we don't need, things that are making us worst not better, so that we have to take more pills we don't need. They are selling us pills that they are making more than half of this country addicts, hello!! Wake up people and smell the money! 

So today my friends, I want you to think about all of this, stop scrolling on Facebook or Instagram for a minute and write your Congressman or your Senators and let them know your done! This is important, more important than reading about what the Kardashians are frigging doing!! 

Let them know we need a better healthcare system and a better way to help people who are sick, not have to worry about whether to go to the hospital or not because they can't afford it. Not to keep them awake at night thinking about how they will pay for the drugs to keep their children alive!

This should be a basic human right, especially in this country....
