Adapting to change
Adapting to change
The world is going crazy, everything we know is changing and we have been seeing things we've never seen in our lifetime. For example all of the schools are closed, and many businesses are closed as well. They just ordered a mandatory closing of all of the restaurants and bars, only allowing them to do take out or delivery only.
All big events are closed, anything more than 50 people cannot take place. Hell, they have even closed Disneyland and Las Vegas, yes, it feels like the world is coming to an end.
For me one of my greatest regrets in this crazy time is the closure of the gym. I am a gym rat, I have been going to the gym everyday for as long as I can remember. I worked out when no women went to the gym, yes, I am that old. I was there when it wasn't popular, when men looked at you cross eyed because that was their space and what the hell were you doing in it. Yes, I am that committed to the gym that I wake up at 5:00 a.m.and am at the gym by 5:30, 5 days a week. This is just what I do, it has become part of my life, like brushing my teeth.
Also this is huge for me because I write my blog while I'm on my treadmill, hence the name Treadmill Treats. For an hour, I am there writing and rewriting this every day.
I know I can't live without working out, because it wakes me up, it energizes me and it gets me through my day so what am I supposed to do now?
I have to tell you that writing my blog in bed is just not the same but we must carry on and so we must adapt to the changing times. And as much as I hate change, I too must learn to adapt. So I have been writing my blog from the comfort of my own bed lately but I needed to work out as well and so I've also decided that I had to figure out something. So what I've been doing is working out from home, I went old school and l broke out my old Billy Bank Tae Bo tapes that I used to do every morning when the girls were babies and I couldn't go to the gym.
I have to tell you, at first my girls laughed and said why are they using those old tapes, but for me it's as much mental as it is physical. I need to work out for my mind as well as for my body, it gets me going. After a few days of being sore as hell as I was not used to it my little one says can I work out with you? Of course I say yes and we do it. When we were done she was smiling and said she loved it.
Now if you don't know what Tae Bo is, it's a mixture of aerobics, boxing and kickboxing all together. It's an amazing workout and since we are a family of boxers, both my girls used to box. My little one was supposed to compete in Golden gloves before a hard left jab to the face by a boy made her scared and quit. I used to date a lot of boxers and trained with them and as a family we never missed watching a boxing match ever,so this came natural to her.
We've also been walking around our lake at night, I figured she needs to get out as she has not been going anywhere with school online now and her restaurant she was working at, closed.
Last night my other daughter and her best friend came over and we all did it together, it was great, we were laughing and joking and sweating together. Afterwards we all cooked together and sat around the table and ate and I have to tell you, I loved it. There is nothing I love more than spending time with my girls. See even under these circumstances, something good is coming out of this.
I know things are changing and sometimes change is scary, but we all must learn to adapt to these times. We don't know how long this will last and what the world will look like on the other side but we must learn to change, to move on and like it or not adapt to the "new normal"
So today my friends, remember change is not always a bad thing, change can produce things you never expected. Like bringing your family together and for us a family that works out together, stays together, and learns to adapt to changing times.
