Isolation equals depression 


With this quarantine going on there are a lot of people out there that are alone and who will be facing bouts of depression because of that. We need to be aware of friends and family that might be going through this. We humans are not built to be  solitary creatures, we are meant to socialize, to have company, to interact with others. But now with the new norm of "social distancing" we are becoming more and more solitary creatures and this will deeply affect a lot of people.


We are stuck in our homes, most people may be glued to the news or social media on their phones. All of this negativity, lies and fear is filling our heads all day. We may not be interacting with another human being for days, we may not be eating right, not exercising or even being exposed to some kind of daylight at all and all of that affects a person's psyche.


Then all of a sudden you start to feel down, so many will overeat, you have no energy to do anything and before long you may be in your pjs all day or not wanting to get out of bed at all. These are all signs of depression caused by isolation.

We must remember to do certain things every day and here's my list to get you back into the land of the living.


  1. Keep your routine up, get up at the same time as you usually would.


  1. If you're working from home take breaks, get up, walk around, go outside for a while.


  1. If you are not working you need to do the same, don't be stuck binge watching a show for hours on end. You also need to get up, walk around, and do something else.


  1. Go outside every day, the reason so many people get depressed is that they don't have enough vitamin D. The sun's rays give us vitamin D, that has all kinds of benefits including:

*Fighting off getting sick or getting an infection. .

*Fatigue and Tiredness. *Bone and Back Pain. *Depression

*Impaired Wound Healing. *Bone Loss

*Hair Loss

*Muscle Pain

So get outside!                             


  1. Exercise every day, go for a walk, a bike ride, break out the old exercise videos like I did. YouTube has plenty of free options out there. But do something to get your body moving and sweating everyday.


  1.  Interact with people, if you can't get out, call or even better video chat with friends and loved ones. Just being able to hear a friendly voice will calm you down. Maybe you can talk about your fears with someone who may have a comforting word for you.


  1. Eat right, throw away all the bad snacks. Hell, your home now and it's the perfect time to try new recipes that are healthy. Remember it is easy to put on weight but it is so much harder to take it off later. So keep eating healthy.


  1. Connect with your higher being, with your church or  Synagogue or wherever you may go most are having online services. We need to have faith, to know that it will be okay, this will fill us up with hope for a brighter tomorrow.


  1. Shut off the news, stop listening to all the depression, negative things they are feeding you and your fears because it just makes it worse. Listen to your favorite music instead, watch something uplifting, do something that will inspire you and not make you feel worse.


So today my friends, if you do these 9 steps everyday you will not fall into a depression, you will feel better about yourself and what is going on in your life and the world.

This is an unprecedented moment of time,but this will not be the end of us, if we continue to fight and do the things we need to do to make ourselves feel better and not be depressed during this isolation.
