God Puts People In Your Life For A Reason

God Puts People In Your Life For A Reason

Today I am writing this blog with a heavy heart. When I woke up at 4:30 am to get ready to go to the gym and I was scrolling through my Facebook news feed and I saw that my dear friend and gym partner of years had passed away. I am a big believer that God puts people in your life for a reason and I definitely know he was put in mine for a reason.

I met Ozzy when I was recently divorced. The gym was my saving grace as it has been for years. Keeping me going through depression, to help me overcome my addiction, my breakups or any other thing that was going crazy in my life. The gym was my safe space, a place to put my negative energy and to calm me. So of course after the divorce I was hitting the gym hard and there was Ozzy, full of energy, a huge smile for everyone and always, always talking to someone. Right away we hit it off. Every morning we came at the same time, and left at the same time. So it was just natural that we started working out together. We pushed each other, we laughed and yes, we talked a lot. Hello, do you know me? I can talk too! Sometimes we talked more than we worked out until one of us said shut the hell up and work out.

We made each accountable for the days we were late or that we missed. We both had been into health our whole lives so we got each other. We also talked about our life's, his wife, kids and grandkids. And about my girls which he always asked about everyday.

He helped me when my car broke down and was always there for me and others as a friend. He had the biggest heart and was a friend for life. He has had the same friends since he came to this country. He was a hard worker and good family man. He also loved life, he lived large, traveling, enjoying a good drink and telling stories. God could he tell stories.

For years he was my daily workout partner. Every day, five days a week at 5 am, I could count on him to be there and to push me. This turned into a deep friendship during these 6 years of the gym.

When he said he was selling his house and moving upstate Florida I was sad but I was happy for him. He was retiring and wanted to be able to not worry about the high cost of living here in South Florida. But I was also deeply sad. Now what was I going to do without my workout partner?
My friend, this person that I told all my issues to.
But if you know me, you know that I am a friend for life as well and so we just started calling each other. Every week we caught up on our lives. I called him right before I went to New York, that was the last time I spoke to him.

So today my friends, I am here at the gym at 5 am. And as sad as I am, I know that my friend and my gym partner is looking down at me, smiling.
Just know that I will miss you as will so many others that you have touched their lives, will be too. Thank you for all the good times, and all the workouts. Ozzy, my dear friend, you will be missed.
