Why I love my church
Why I love my church
If you read my blog you know how I feel about my church The Faith Center and my Bishop Henry Fernandez. This man and this church literally saved my life 7 years ago.
I had hit rock bottom once again in my life, beaten down by a 24 year verbally abusive marriage, having lost my dad, my good friend and my mom in a three year span.
I was so lost that I started drinking and taking pills every night to try to cope with my miserable life, that I hated.
I was at the end of my rope on the first Christmas eve after losing my mom and I wanted to end it all. It was at that moment that I heard from a friend I hadn't hear from in thirty years, who talked me off the ledge. I then got on my knees and started praying.
God sent me to this church two days later and it was if God was talking to me through this pastor.
I have learned many lessons from him through God. I remember when gay marriage pasted and I was so worried as my best friend and many others I know are gay. I thought this may be it, I may be otta here after this but in true Henry fashion he preached about loving one another and who are we to judge and I knew once again that I picked the right church.
I remember when I was moving after my divorce, so many people from church came and helped me pack and move.
When the government shut down he called out to all the government workers to come onstage and we as a congregation raised a huge amount of money for these 11 people so they could keep their homes and feed their families.
This is what my church is about, we have a food bank that every Saturday feeds the neighborhood where we started in.
Every Thanksgiving we give 2 bags of groceries and a Turkey to 2,000 families. This is what we are taught there, to be a blessing to others, to love one another and not to judge as we are not God.
This Sunday yet again my church and pastor blew me away when he stopped his sermon to say God spoke to him about someone there who couldn't buy groceries for her children. Someone who had no food in her home, that God was calling her forward. We waited yet no one came forward it was when he said "Don't block your blessings"
It was exactly what someone said to me recently and I was praying for a sign. (Well, won't he do it? There it was, my sign!)
She stood up and came down, Bishop blessed her with 500.00 for groceries and as she fell to her knees crying, everyone in church came down with an offering for her.
We learned later that she was also getting evicted on Monday. See how God works?
This is the reason I love my church and my Bishop, the compassion, the caring, the unbiased giving they have for one another and the community.
Yes, he has taught me so many lessons, he has brought me through so much and he has taught me to have undying faith, like he has. Even in my darkest storms, I have faith, Bishop size faith and I know I can go on.
I am big on saying I am for anything that gets you through your day, whether it be Buddhist, Jewish, Catholic, you believe in a tic tac, whatever it is, whatever higher power you believe in, good for you.
This is what works for me and I constantly am telling you about the miracles he has produced in my life.
This isn't for everyone, this is for someone out there who was like me hopeless and broken, ready to give up, this is why I keep talking about this because trust and believe if he can do it for me, he can do it for you!
I am just a vessel to tell my testimonies, this passion, this purpose he gave me with this writing is to share it with you all.
So today my friends remember, we all can do our parts, we all can be a blessing to others. It reminded me of that bible verse "There before the grace of God goes I"
That could have been me, that could have been you, one sick week, one bad break, one storm to knock you to your knees but if you have faith, if you don't block your blessings God will show up and show out in your life.
Next week is our 28th anniversary of our church, all are welcome to join us for praise and worship, prayers, food and fellowship.
Sunday July 7th at 10 am at The Faith Center 5555 NW 55th St, Sunrise, FL 33351
Come out to see why I love my church so much!
"Be the change you want to see"
