Why we praise and worship

Recently I've been going to my daughter's boyfriend's church because she and her sister have been going there.

If you follow me you know that my home church is The Faith Center but I feel that God has placed it in my heart to come here with them as I would like to get them settled in a church of their own.

So the last two Sunday's there have been messages that they needed to hear and this was today's message.

God tells us that a cheerful heart is good medicine. Yet we get to church and we get uptight, we have all these misconceptions about the church.
Especially when it comes to praise and worship. Some of the greatest things you can do in church is praise and worship yet so many people just don't get it.
Praise is about Thanksgiving and worship is about honor. In the bible, it tells us.

"I will enter his gates with Thanksgiving, I will enter his courts with praise"

Praise gets awkward for people and sometimes people won't show their thanksgiving because their ego won't let them. When you are his, when you know all this is from him and it didn't come from others, you will not be embarrassed by what he gave you.
Don't let others talk about how you praise, remember that you are doing it for God and not for them.

Did you know the word Avad is mentioned 289 times in the bible? It is the word for worship and work. Work and worship are the same things. Worship is just not about singing, it's everything you do that shows God glory.

What we don't realize sometimes is that everything else has to do what God says. The animals, the trees, the oceans, only we have a choice to worship, everything else does exactly what God wants.
So then why is it that we praise? Jesus said "If they don't praise me, the rock will cry out"
See everything including the rocks must praise him.

Don't let somebody who doesn't know what you have been through, tell you how to praise. They don't know what you know, they don't know the storms you've been through, they were not responsible for your testimony.
Tell them, you don't know what I've been through, how I was lost and broken, how he saved me, how he took care of me... this is why I praise him, this is why I worship him.

You need to remember that you haven't seen God's best work yet, you don't know what he's willing to do for you. But sometimes God's got to shake you for you to see him clearly. God's trying to shake you, to wake you up. Do not lose faith because even if he shakes you and you might lose somethings, you might be a little bruised. He will make you whole again, he will point you to what is truly yours, what he has for you and your life.

So today my friends, this is why we come to praise and worship, this is how we give our thanks to God for all he's done and all he continues to do in our lives. This is a lesson of the foundation for my girls, to let them know why we do what we do. These are the building blocks for them to build their faith on.

I will continue to be grateful for this church for being so real that my girls can relate. And for helping me with my prayers, that they too will know God's goodness in their lives.
