This virus is giving us time to reflect
The rain awakens me from my sleep, I hear the wind blow and the sounds of my wind chimes blowing in the breeze. I wonder if this is God crying about what we have done to his beautiful planet. If this time of quarantine is giving everyone a time to reflect on what was, and what is, wrong with our world.
I love the rain, it washes everything, it makes everything clean, it washes away the dirt, leaving everything feeling like new. It makes you calm and it slows down our minds so that we may think clearer.
I think about how our lives will be different when we get out of this. Will we just return to our daily routines again? Or will we come out of this, changed people? Will we slow down? Will we appreciate what this has taught us? That life and family is above all, the most precious thing we have.
I hope this is teaching us that likes and followers mean nothing when you don't have your health, or money to feed your family. In one full scoop this leveled the playing field, suddenly everyone is even. It doesn't matter if you're the future king or a field worker, if you're young or old, white or black. It doesn't care if your democratic or republican, gay or straight, we are all in the same boat.
We are frightened for the safety of our families, we have all lost jobs or most of our incomes. We lay awake at night, thinking how we will pay our bill's or feed our families. We all have the same fears now, this is no longer just about us, this is about the whole world.
All that we thought was important, no longer means anything. The money, the likes, the fame, what others opinions are of you. None of that matters anymore. No, we are coming to realize the simple things and what that means again. It means time with our loved ones, a walk together in nature, time to sit down to share a meal together. We are learning that the little things are truly the big things now. Basic necessities, toilet paper, food for your family, medicine that we took for granted, all these things that are no longer easily accessible, has changed our perspective on things.
Maybe this virus is cleansing us like the rain, making us stop and listen to the earth, really listen to her screams of help. Screams that she has been screaming for so long with no one ever hearing her. How we overused her, poisoned her waters, killed her animals and forests with no regard to anything but what we wanted or what we needed. How we lost our compassion for one another, how we had no time to be bothered if it didn't have to do with us.
It has always been about us, we are a selfish world and maybe this is the universe's way of putting all of us in a time out to really think about what we have done. To stop and look around at her beauty, to stop and literally smell the roses before we kill off everything around us.
We lived in a society of me, me, me, of I want it and I want it now. Everything is fast, fast food, fast learning, fast interactions, we had no time to contemplate anything because we always had something else to do. Something to keep our minds occupied but now it's quiet, we have time to think about our lives, and how we have been living them. To think about what we really want, if and when we come out of this We have time to think about what the world is going to look like on the other side and how we want to change it.
All I can say to you my friends, is that this has changed me, not that I haven't always been grateful for the time I spend with my girls but this is a special time. This is quality time because I realize how very precious time with our loved ones is.
This has tested my faith, I know that he is there to calm me even in the midst of the storm. I learned I am not in control and that I must let go and trust.
I hope this time has given you a time to reflect as well, a time to start implementing change in your life and the world. I hope that we will all come out of this changed people, more compassionate, slower, and really appreciating what is truly important in our lives and our world.
Let this time cleanse our souls just like the rain cleanses our planet. And let us remember what I say at the end of all my blogs, be the change you want to see…..
"Be the change you want to see"
"And just when the caterpillar thought his life over...he turned into a beautiful butterfly"
