Taking care of yourself
Taking care of yourself
We are always taking care of others, especially us women. We put our kids first, our families, and even our friends before us.
I remember doing this for years until one day I didn't even know who I was anymore. I put everyone's needs and wants above my own.
I will never forget what my therapist once said to me during this time, and that was my light bulb moment. She said when we go in an airplane, the first thing they tell us is, if something happens and the air masks come down, put it on your face before helping your loved one with theirs. See, if you don't take care of yourself, you won't be able to take care of others.
This is true in life as well. We give and give until we have nothing left. We feel burnt out, and we lose ourselves by giving all of us away. I learned since that day to stop and take care of me. It's okay. You are not talking away from others, but you are just recharging yourself, so you'll be able to keep giving.
My thing is facials. Every month, I get a facial. It relaxes me and makes me look and feel better. This is my time to pamper myself.
Well, this weekend, after a rough week, I decided to get a facial and then thought, why not get a massage, too?
After my massage, I put on some of my favorite music and got into a hot bath with a big glass of wine.
I relaxed and let everything go. This was me time. I was not worried about the upcoming crazy week, about the list of to-do's I had, I was not thinking about anything, just being grateful in this moment.
I slept like a baby and woke up the next morning like a new person, recharged and ready to go. We all need this, go for a walk with your favorite music, do some meditation, go to the beach, treat yourself to a facial or massage, and you need to invest time in yourself.
So today, my friends, I am here to give you permission to take care of yourself. It's not a bad thing. You won't be less than a woman if you do so. You will actually be a better person when you do, do this. You will be recharged to be able to keep giving. It's okay to take care of ourselves, cut yourself a break, and do it now. I guarantee the world won't fall apart for that hour you are gone.
