Painkillers, the story of how a pharmaceutical company got the world hooked
Painkillers, the story of how a pharmaceutical company got the world hooked.
We, as a nation, have trusted that the FDA would do right by us. But why? When we see every day that the government does not care about us or our well-being.
A perfect example of this is the new documentary series on Netflix called Painkillers.
This show follows Purdue pharmaceutical company and how they bought themselves into the FDA's pocket and along the way made more people addicts than the Crack phase years before it.
Not many people know that the FDA is a small government agency that takes the drug companies' word for it. They don't run tests or their own trails on what they are passing.
These drugs are not poured over by a panel of experts to make sure that the drugs that they are passing are indeed safe for everyone. They just take the tests they are given by the drug manufacturer at face value.
This is where the world's addiction begins. Pharmaceutical companies are now promoting their products on television, on ads, and even on social media each and every day. While they are making billions, yes, billions of dollars off of their drug pushing.
From beautiful pharmaceutical reps to the doctors that they gave bonus to, to the FDA and even the Attorney General's office. They bought off everyone and didn't care that they were the drug dealers that were making the world addicted.
Did you know that 300,000 people have died over the past 2 decades from overdose involving prescription painkillers like Oxycontin?
Or that over 40 people a day die in the US alone from prescription drugs? This is their drug that they are pedaling every day while they get richer and richer and kill more and more people.
In the end, they only had to pay out 4.5 billion dollars, which was nothing compared with what they made, 30 million a day or the pain they caused to so many people and families.
Even though the company is going bankrupt, none of the Sackler family was charged in connection with marketing Oxycontin or any overdose deaths involving the drug. The family is still worth over 11 billion dollars.
And this my friends is how our lovely government works. They protect the rich, and they allow big pharmaceutical companies to peddle their goods without consequences just as long as their palms are greased. This is what we are voting in and allowing to happen. As I say at the end of every blog, only you can be the change you want to see, and we need a change, people.
