The meaning of Thanksgiving

Thursday was Thanksgiving and it's a time of year that all families come together.
I have cooked Thanksgiving dinner since I was a teenager, my mom hated to cook and was more than happy to pawn it off to me as soon as I wanted to do it.

Every year I cooked it all, right down to the cakes and cookies and I love doing it. There was only once in all these years I didn't do and it was when I was married and my kitchen was being remodeled.

This year my daughter's informed me that they booked a trip to Europe and they wouldn't be here for Thanksgiving. I was brokenhearted but I was also proud of them for paying and booking a trip of a lifetime.

I wasn't in the holiday spirit and I didn't want to cook and have a house full of people without them, not to mention the man I am seeing was involved in a wedding and family this weekend. So I put out notice to my usual group who comes to my house that Thanksgiving was off this year.

My girlfriends reached out to me with "We all had a bad year, we need to be together, you have to have it"
When I said no she went on "We will do all the cooking you just cook the Turkey"

My smart ass response was "Fine and if no one brings anything else you'll be eating Turkey on your hand because that's all I am doing!"

We sent out a text to all the usual people who came and a week later when everyone hemmed and haed about they didn't know what they were doing, I was out....done.

That's when they said let's go away since none of us had our kids this year...so why not. Now that was an idea I liked and so off we went to book an Air BNB on the beach 3 hours north of us.

Nothing like fresh beach air to make you forget about everything.
We made our own Thanksgiving dinner, Spanish style thanks to my one friend and ate on a table outside by the beach. We all said what we were grateful for and each one of us said that we were all together and that we were blessed to have each other in our lives.

See it doesn't matter where you are or what you eat. It doesn't matter if you have family or not, it only matters that you are with the people you love on a special day giving thanks.

I am truly grateful for these two women, for their friendship and their support through good times and bad. God has blessed me with friends who are like my family and who I love just as much as if they were.
I have always said that friends are the family you choose for yourself.

I am grateful for my amazing, independent girls.

I am grateful for my Prince, who taught me my self worth and is so wonderful to me.

I am grateful for my friends who are my family and my family who are always behind me.

I am grateful for my God, my faith, my church and church family.

I am grateful for my business and all my wonderful clients.

I am grateful for my home and the peace and joy I have there. That we have a roof over our heads and food on our table, when so many do not.

I am grateful for all the lessons, even the painful ones as they taught me who I am and how strong I am.

I am thankful for everything in my life, no matter how crazy it may be because no matter what, I am blessed to wake up and have another day.

So today my friends, remember it's not about what you eat, where you are or what your doing, all that matters is that you are with the people that mean the most to you, the people that you love.
