Can a person really change?
My ex use to always say
"A leopard can't change his spots" and yes, he is right, a Leopard may not be able to change his spots but we as humans can.
I have seen it over and over in my lifetime, these are the stories that give us hope and inspire us to go on! I mean really? Do you want to be judged by what you've done thirty years ago? God, I hope not as I was a mess years ago. I did drugs and drank too much alcohol, I lied, I pretended to be someone I wasn't and everyday I put on a facade for the world to see.
Here's the thing, you have to ask yourself, have you not learned lessons? Have you not grown and moved on? Are you really the same person you were years ago? Again I hope not… because age is supposed to bring you wisdom.
Case in point are two good friends of mine that were crack heads back in the day. They did drugs booze, partying, you name it, they have done it and then they hit rock bottom bad.
One day they, yes, THEY decided that enough was enough and so they took the steps to change. They were both clean and sober for many years, even helping others to stay clean as well.
My one friend was an inspiration to me and many others, as she had the most positive attitude of any one I know! She had cleaned her body and she worked and changed her mind as well, but she was not able to stay that way. The drugs once again took control of her life and she has chosen to go down that rabbit hole of darkness yet again.
You have to remember that when you are an addict, every day is up to you. You chose every day to be clean or not. You chose to fight off the demons or let them loose. I know this as I've been clean for 29 years and every day I must choose to stay this way.This is all on you, a leopard doesn't have a choice but as humans, we do.
Another incredible story of change that I love is about the Miami Heat's Dwayne Wade's mom. She was a druggie, she sold her body, she was a lousy mom, she cheated and she lied for her drugs. She was in and out of jail most of his life. I heard her tell her testimony and it made me cry, until one day she said it's done, and she gave her life over to God. She made the choice to get clean and it totally changed her life, today she is a pastor of her own church! She helps people all over the world with her testimony.
Really, so you say we can't change? We can do anything we set our minds to, I have seen this over and over.
You can come from a dirt poor family where no one can read and you can get into an Ivy league college. See nothing is impossible! You can be homeless, living in your car with nothing to eat and then go to running a million dollar company, just look at Tyler Perry or Steve Harvey for inspiration.
Oprah came from nothing to becoming the most influential and richest women in the world, don't tell me it can't be done.
You can escape from Cuba on a raft with just the clothes on your back and come to the United States and with hard work and determination in a few years you can own your own company. Plenty of my friends have done this and I live in Miami, so there are hundreds of stories like this as well.
Nothing, I mean nothing is impossible if you want it bad enough.
You can change your life, you can change what you don't like about yourself, your attitude, your drug or alcohol use, the way you treat people, anything. It is up to you, and I always say at the end of every blog "Be the change you want to see"
So today my friends, remember nothing is impossible, there is nothing you can't change if you want it bad enough. I wholeheartedly believe that every one of us has the ability to change, to be the change we want to see in this world.
And yes, maybe a leopard can't change his spots but we certainly can!
