The low blow Trump gave about drug addiction
So if you know me and follow me you know that I am very open about my past drug addiction.
You know my struggles over the years and what it took to get my life back and stay clean.
You also know that I have a lot of friends that have also overcame addiction and have changed their lives and many that haven't, and are back in it. I have lost just as many friends from addiction so this is no laughing matter to me.
So the other night during the "presidential debates" when Trump called out and said things about Joe Biden son being a drug addict, this really pissed me off!
First of all, why would you say anything like that? This was a presidential debate not a mud slinging contest, and why would you ever throw that in a man's face about his son?
Wasn't this a presidential debate? Isn't there enough to talk about, like global warming, or Corona virus killing 200,000 people? What about your taxes? Huh? Why weren't you talking about that? How about we talk about things that are really happening in this country while you live in your glass mansion on the hill? People losing their jobs, their homes, mothers having no food to feed their children. What about the racial unrest in this country, police reform, the broken health care system that you were supposed to fix in the 4 years you already had and did nothing.
Trust and believe there were a lot of other things he could have talked about but yet he chose to take a cheap shot about a man's child who is struggling with drug addiction, to me that shows exactly what kind of man he is NOT.
Because as if we didn't already know it before, we certainly saw what kind of man you are. The kind of man that takes cheap shots and who will not denounce the hate groups that are growing rampant in this country. Hell, not only did he not denounce them, he gave them a shout out.
So # 45 Let me give you a few facts about addiction but more importantly the facts about Joe Biden son's drug addiction.
First of all he was in a car accident where he and his brother Beau, were severely injured in. A car accident that killed Biden's wife and baby daughter, Naomi, in 1972, just as his dad was being nominated into office.
He suffered brain injuries and had to deal with survivors guilt for years. Then years later his only brother and best friend, Beau died, all of these things that led him spiraling out of control into drug addiction.
If you have not had a drug addiction you will never know what it feels like. Most people have a drug addiction because they cannot or will not deal with the issues in their lives and so they try to drown their hurt and pain with drugs and alcohol.
This is not a laughing matter or is it kind to throw in a parent's face especially when most parents feel it is somehow their fault. They are helpless to get their children clean and endure heartache each and every day watching their children go through this pain and suffering.
But you know none of this, you don't know how it feels like to only think about drugs not your family or your friends. You know nothing about the guilt you suffer through the times you are clean only to throw you back into drugs to try to forget that as well. You have no idea how hard it is to stop doing the things you've been doing for years, to unlearn all of your bad behaviors and learn how to deal with life without drugs to turn to. You have no idea how hard it is to do the 12 steps, to atone for your horrible behavior, own your shit and have the people in your life disown you because they no longer believe your lies.
You have no idea how many times a day you have to fight the urge to get high, how when your world is spinning out of control, how easy it could be to fall back into the arms of drugs to make all your pain go away even for that minute. No, you know none of this. You don't know what it is like to wake up after trying to kill yourself because you know no other way and to see your mother's face crying as she prayed all night that you would live. The disappointment you gave to your parents, the shame and guilt they live with every day. Again, you know none of this because you never went through it but at least you could have some compassion as a decent human being to not throw it out there in a political debate.
I am proud to be a recovering drug addict, I am proud I turned my life around and now I can offer help for others to pull them out. I send prayers out to the Biden family that Hunter will stay clean and sober, as this is a lifelong struggle and not something to make fun of, or call out a family on, especially on national television.
So today my friends, let us all think about putting ourselves in others shoes…
Let us all have compassion for others going through things we know nothing about…
Let anyone one of you, without sin cast the first stone…
