What I learned on this, another year

What I learned on this, another year

So this weekend was my birthday. Don't ask...because I  was born in the dinosaur days, before the internet, microwaves or cell phones, yes I am that old.

But I was so happy to be celebrating my birthday this year, it meant that I survived another year, I survived the pandemic, I was still here holding on. It means I have a testimony to tell others who are just barely holding on.

I have been through a lot this last year but through it all I kept faith. I didn't panic when the pandemic came, when all of my clients didn't want me in their homes, when I couldn't pay my bills unless I started to go through my savings which I was blessed to have. I kept praying and believing that God would take care of me and he did. Just like always I got by, he made a way. Friends took care of friends and it was an amazing thing.

This year I am grateful for our health, that me, my girls and our family and friends were not affected by this. I am grateful for the pandemic as it gave me time to slow down, to spend quality time with my girls. To get things done on my to do list, to take up new hobbies and to lay around and chill which for most of the time I am running a thousand miles an hour.

This made me stop and realize what are the most important things in my life, our health, my girls, our family and friends. This strengthened my belief in God, even though there wasn't an actual church to go to, I still went twice a week online, it increased my faith because yet again I had nowhere or no one else to depend on but him.

This year made me grateful that I had food as so many didn't. It made me grateful for my girls as so many people were suffering alone. It made me grateful for our home as we still had one as many were worried about getting thrown out in the streets.

It made me grateful for friends and family who came through and helped me out without me asking. People who loved me and knew we were struggling, they stepped up. I am grateful for our health and that we could get up and get out in the fresh air to exercise and be able to walk and breathe as so many were not. So many people were in the hospital on ventilators struggling to breathe and 200,000 people didn't survive, some people I knew and loved were amongst them.

So today my friends, I am so grateful for this, another year to keep going, to be able to tell my testimony, to be able to get up and try again tomorrow. I am truly grateful for him and his grace, for our health, my girls and friends and family, these are the things that are most important in my life. Not the social media, not the likes, not the material things, or the clubs and restaurants or events. Not the job, the clients or anything else, what truly is important is the things money cannot buy. It's love and faith, it's that my friends are priceless and I am happy to have gotten this gift on my birthday.

So today take the time to say thank you for another year, for another day to try again, to keep going even though it may be tough don't give up. It will be okay and next year you'll be saying how you're gotten through and how much better it is now.Learn the lessons now, figure out what these times are trying to teach you… there are lessons in everything… what's yours?
